YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Maybe my song of the year. Or at least top 5.

And there's only competition because there's so many great songs this year.

Ramzee ft Mighty Moe – Go Loco

found these listed on an old pioneer show from a month back, anyone heard them perchance? according to mighty moe on wednesday's marcus show 'go loco' is a funkystepz production

Why oh why did I only get around to listening to Fuzzy Logic's mix on the Kiss Presents show now? Top notch, having serious faith-restoring effects on me after going through an up-and-down phase with things. Loving the synth-funk vibes on some of these tunes. Rest of the show looks to be fun too.

Mr Andy M, Thursday, 1 September 2011 12:16 (twelve years ago) link

twiss is always going to be classic but fuzzy's mix is just o-k imo. he weighty j and coldsteps one is the one though. some amazing tracks on there. made me a convert again.

titchy (titchyschneiderMk2), Thursday, 1 September 2011 13:07 (twelve years ago) link

nobody has an mp3 of the fuzzy show do they? i go back to that page every few days and the radio streamer gadget never works for me. the samples of 'all my love' sound gr8!

this new ep from 86 baby (murdz from devine i think?) is great on first listen, i love the line he toes between galloping synth drama and (er, cringe) live-sounding timbres. much less glossy and even songy than say ill blu, but there's a cool under-the-surface hypnotic effect that he gets from hardly ever throwing any major new hooks in but continuously changing around the elements that are there. like there always seems to be something new simmering in between the cracks of everything else. (dunno how far this really holds - i mean the new percussion halfway through 'rhythm & funk' is just madness)

At this stage I frequently get confused as to which tunes I've posted about on dissensus and which I've covered here. Anyway, this one caught my attention recently:
http://www.junodownload.com/products/air/1823941-02/
Reckon it's the sort of thing that should appeal to the regulars on this thread - i.e. groovy vocal tune that's ear-catching and slightly freakish in a not overly self-conscious way. In other words I rate.
Def hyped this one over on the other side, but don't think I've mentioned it for a why even though it's been out for a while:
http://www.junodownload.com/products/into-you/1763628-02/
Remixes are decent but it's the og mix that's the one for me, one of my tunes of the year at this stage. IIRC Greenmoney have had quite a mixed reception on here but this one's a bit different from a lot of their tunes, less boshy but still rude/sharp.
Also Razzlerman is growing on me as a producer, after finding his work a little underwhelming to start with:
http://soundcloud.com/razzlerman/tracks
Think he's finally due to have a first public release out next month.

Mr Andy M, Friday, 16 September 2011 15:00 (twelve years ago) link

not that funkystepz need more highlighting here, but their mix shifts the big hulking tank of the og 'into you' into this exquisite ballerina trailing ribbon and streamers - i've put that mix on nearly every cd i've burned this summer, so so good

lucas pine, Saturday, 17 September 2011 20:39 (twelve years ago) link

lol that they did a weeknd remix

rusty_allen u shld def get the andy j & s-tee bbc set that rtc links just before the fold upthread, it's seriously mental

Joining the dots, LR Groove and Eastwood's shows on DejaVu have def been among my favorite radio sets so far this year. Can post up some links in a bit. Overall I'd have to say UKF radio hasn't been as good this year as last, which is a real shame.

xpost i just found out i have that one. must have forgot it after downloading. thx for the reminder.

andy, i tend to agree with you, but honestly i haven't been paying enough attention to state that fact.

why is it always the shit artists who are good at self-promo

in my recent funky torpor i was inexplicably drawn to listen to that rebekka france mix again (and again) this morning actually

something important and new about it, so alive and wild not just in vocal but totally matched in production

really feels like a road not taken :/

r|t|c, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 11:00 (twelve years ago) link

i guess what i'm meaning is there's something almost... junglist about it? as opposed to the simple leanness and meanness of when funky guys usually take their baby steps towards "tribal"

r|t|c, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 11:04 (twelve years ago) link

meanness of when funky guys usually take their baby steps towards "tribal"

Totally feeling you on this, 'meanness' is a great description (unfortunately) for most of these kind of tunes. It's weird and frustrating 'cause as a fan of jungle and of drum/percussion led stuff in general, it feels like tribal-funky is something I ought in theory to be totally into, but so many examples just leave me thinking 'eh that's ok' and no more. Bushman from LR Groove's last EP I thought was really cool, but that was as much to do with the synths as the drums. As I said above, I'm starting to enjoy some of Razzlerman's experiments in this direction, but overall it feels a bit like 'missed opportunity' at this stage.
/rambling moaning

Mr Andy M, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 12:26 (twelve years ago) link

WHY DO THESE SONGS NOT EXIST YET

This happens across dance music really - how many hardcore or jungle records never saw commercial release even in a much better age for record sales? European techno or house records can still take a year between appearing in DJ sets and online mixes and becoming commercially available. I suppose it's more noticeable here because the thread catches things so early, and because funky's commercial infrastructure is (still) so patchy and underdeveloped. It's hardly the artists' fault their records aren't seeing the light of day.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 12:32 (twelve years ago) link

At least nowawadays everything ends up on good quality mixes.

There are amazing grime tunes i still only have on homemade tapes.

Tim F, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 12:35 (twelve years ago) link

razzlerman and lr groove actually both nailed a great little sort of tribalism with the stuff they first came out imo with and then (seemingly) once they started to think about it and put name to vibe lost it completely

(talking about 'bushwacker' wrt razzler)

ye olde rhythmic danger discussion once again

r|t|c, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 12:47 (twelve years ago) link

as releases go it's more infuriating when artists don't release stuff which has already built up pressure rather than them not taking punts into the vague unknown. like idk maybe i'm jumping the gun in judging when pressure actually exists but am i really supposed to get gassed when champion gets round to releasing motherboard two years late?

r|t|c, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 12:57 (twelve years ago) link

think the fives just released or are about to release 'it's what you do' btw

r|t|c, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 13:06 (twelve years ago) link

to be fair "motherboard" got a (fairly poor quality) pressing in 2009.

the we r bass ep is out and the great pioneer/egypt tune is also on itunes.

hadnt that ever come out properly? iirc it was one of the easier ones to get ahold of, even had radio and extended edits...

'crackish' (the instrumental) i've never seen around higher than 256k though if anyone should happen to have that

What a difference 6 months makes - funny how after I spent the first few months worrying that Marcus Nasty was going all boring housey now I wonder if his sets lean too hard on the post-Redlight bassdriven drug noise business. When the basslines don't overwhelm the beats though this stuff can sound really good, kind of Caribbean-rave.

Tim F, Sunday, 9 October 2011 10:24 (twelve years ago) link

you wonder if...? hmm, i was sure enough to stop listening to marcus altogether a few months ago.
