Maybe I should go with "Push It" (How'd it take so long for that one to show up? Ditto on "Jump Around".), but "Gettin' Jiggy Wit It" was THE song. You'd have to have been 12 at the time to understand.

The Reverend, Saturday, 7 July 2007 07:55 (sixteen years ago) link

since i was 12 at the time, i'm voting for "gettin' jiggy wit it" as well, with nods to "space jam", "raise the roof", "everybody" and "jump around."

u are all so young!!!!

mo money

deej, Saturday, 7 July 2007 09:08 (sixteen years ago) link

EDIT: i was actually 10. =/.

i was kind of astounded that, after scrolling down this tracklist, i liked about 7 more songs on here better than "mo money."

Jordan Sargent, Saturday, 7 July 2007 09:12 (sixteen years ago) link

"jump around" and "tubthumping" are both worse

wtf else do you like more?

deej, Saturday, 7 July 2007 09:24 (sixteen years ago) link

definitely "space jam", "gettin jiggy wit it'", "raise the roof" and "jump around" maybe "everybody", "tubthumping" and "push it".

i guess i should have said that i was surprised that after seeing "mo money" how difficult a decision this was. at the right time "mo money" might be like my 4th or 5th favorite song here.

Jordan Sargent, Saturday, 7 July 2007 09:36 (sixteen years ago) link

"Tubthumping" but only very slightly edging out "Mo Money, Mo Problems," two songs that made 1997 the greatest year for singles since 1981.

I've never heard these:

7. "Raise The Roof" - Luke
10. "No One Pushes Us Around" - J.K. Simmons
12. "Hear The Organ Get Wicked" - Ray Castoldi - I'm assuming this is some sports personality
13. "Mueve La Cadera (Move Your Body)" - Reel 2 Real - Is this anything like "I like to move it, move it?"
18. "Beautiful Day" - Hypertrophy
20. "Get Ready To Bounce" - Brooklyn Bounce

Any good?

11. "Going Out Of My Head" - Fatboy Slim

^^^ this is a beast

and what, Saturday, 7 July 2007 15:27 (sixteen years ago) link

Indeed.

The Reverend, Saturday, 7 July 2007 17:49 (sixteen years ago) link

For nostalgic reasons, I want to vote "Gettin' Jiggy Wit It."

(When I was 7, I wanted to buy Big Willie Style, but my mom wouldn't let me (because it was explicit), so I had to settle with Backstreet Boys' self-titled album...)

But my brain is telling me "Mo Money, Mo Problems," which might have been the first music video I really loved. HMMMM....I'll need a few days to decide.

Tape Store, Saturday, 7 July 2007 18:03 (sixteen years ago) link

If the Austin Powers option gets any votes, there will be hell to pay.

John Justen, Saturday, 7 July 2007 18:20 (sixteen years ago) link

I am preturbed there are people on this thread who weren't born before the first Jock Jams volume was released.

Eric H., Saturday, 7 July 2007 19:09 (sixteen years ago) link

I strongly doubt that. Not even Young Tape Steezy.

The Reverend, Saturday, 7 July 2007 19:59 (sixteen years ago) link

tubthumping :/

stephen, Saturday, 7 July 2007 20:45 (sixteen years ago) link

Bumping for the mythical (never spotted in the wild) weekday ILM crowd.

The Reverend, Monday, 9 July 2007 14:10 (sixteen years ago) link

"Going Out Of My Head" definitely dates this record (must be '98).

billstevejim, Monday, 9 July 2007 21:27 (sixteen years ago) link

Both of the megamixes on this album are wicked. I'll vote for Push It although the Space Jam theme holds a special place in my heart.

Kevin, I am sure you've heard Brooklyn Bounce. "No One Pushes Us Around" isn't an actual song. And "Mueve La Cadera" is a great Latin number, worth a listen.

musically, Monday, 9 July 2007 22:32 (sixteen years ago) link

I was 12 when "Gettin' Jiggy With It" came out too!

musically, Monday, 9 July 2007 22:34 (sixteen years ago) link

Well, why didn't you vote for it then? You are a disgrace to people who were 12 when "Gettin' Jiggy With It" came out!

The Reverend, Monday, 9 July 2007 22:47 (sixteen years ago) link

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Monday, 9 July 2007 23:01 (sixteen years ago) link

Actually, I lied, I was almost 12. Now that I think about it, lots of these songs were released 1997-98, weren't they? That was the problem the series later on...it turned into a collection of recent hits that happened to be played in stadiums once in a while, if that.

musically, Monday, 9 July 2007 23:11 (sixteen years ago) link

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 23:01 (sixteen years ago) link

No love for "Space Jam" :(

musically, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 23:20 (sixteen years ago) link

kinda sad that the under-21 crowd's movement to get "gettin' jiggy wit it" to win this failed.

Jordan Sargent, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 23:25 (sixteen years ago) link

I am 21, thank you, but your point still applies. And no votes for "Space Jam" = give ILM the old Alt-f4.

The Reverend, Wednesday, 11 July 2007 02:49 (sixteen years ago) link

(Maybe "Space Jam" is the Universal Number Two of the 21-and-under set?)

The Reverend, Wednesday, 11 July 2007 02:50 (sixteen years ago) link
