The Residents singer and Divine?

blueski, Friday, 25 May 2007 12:32 (nineteen years ago)

Jamiroquai = early Stevie Wonder
Dani Klein (Vaya Con Dios) on Just A Friend Of Mine = Boy George

StanM, Friday, 25 May 2007 12:49 (nineteen years ago)

oh wait, Jamiroquai and Stevie Wonder are both non-female, aren't they? Scrap that one.

StanM, Friday, 25 May 2007 12:49 (nineteen years ago)

Boyzone's "Baby can I hold you tonight" sounded a heck of a lot like Joan Armatrading.

Then I discovered it was a cover version of one of her songs. That one sounded a lot like Boyzone!

Mark G, Friday, 25 May 2007 12:50 (nineteen years ago)

Back To Life = Bros

Praise You = Eels.

more?

Mark G, Friday, 25 May 2007 12:50 (nineteen years ago)

Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson.

Tanita Tikaram and Lloyd Cole may not sound alike, but they look very much alike.

Boyzone's "Baby can I hold you tonight" sounded a heck of a lot like Joan Armatrading.

Then I discovered it was a cover version of one of her songs. That one sounded a lot like Boyzone!

Does this possibly have to do with the fact that "Baby Can I Hold You Tonight"'s writer and original performer, Tracy Chapman, was very obviously influenced by Joan Armatrading in her vocal style?

Geir Hongro, Friday, 25 May 2007 18:21 (nineteen years ago)

Corin Tucker = Geddy Lee

For awhile I thought the singer from Frou Frou was a Thom Yorke-ish guy singing in falsetto.

St3ve Go1db3rg, Friday, 25 May 2007 22:46 (nineteen years ago)

Curt1s Stephens, Friday, 25 May 2007 22:55 (nineteen years ago)

Geir Hongro, Saturday, 26 May 2007 00:08 (nineteen years ago)

Tuomas, Saturday, 26 May 2007 01:04 (nineteen years ago)

Heather Smalls from M People?

jim, Saturday, 26 May 2007 01:12 (nineteen years ago)

Liz Fraser and Jeff Buckley. Don't believe me? Listen to them sing together. I cant tell who is who sometimes.

Trayce, Saturday, 26 May 2007 05:03 (nineteen years ago)

Neil Sedaka and Taffy of "I Love My Radio" fame.

Arthur, Saturday, 26 May 2007 10:12 (nineteen years ago)

He sounds like Nina Simone, in case someone hadn't noticed. But Heather Smalls is a good one too.

Tuomas, Saturday, 26 May 2007 11:14 (nineteen years ago)

pisces, Saturday, 26 May 2007 11:24 (nineteen years ago)

Plenty of times I couldn't tell if it was Daltery or Townshend singing, particularly on the soft passages.

Another female singer sounding a lot like Michael Jackson i Siedah Garret. You can hardly tell the difference on "I Just Can't Stop Loving You".

Geir Hongro, Saturday, 26 May 2007 15:50 (nineteen years ago)

On the first lines of "Planet Telex" Thom Yorke sounds exactly like Aimee Mann.

Standing In The Shadows Of Bob, Sunday, 27 May 2007 06:40 (nineteen years ago)

I recently played a whole Terry Callier album at a 'dinner party' before someone commented "I love Nina Simone".

mysterbey, Sunday, 27 May 2007 07:43 (nineteen years ago)

Oh gosh I didnt think of this one: Thom Yorke, and Colin Ruffino from Home Video. Amazingly similar, in a very complimentary way.

Also I find I have trouble distinguishing Dave and Martin from Depeche apart, but I am sure DM fans will slaughter me for that one, heh.

Trayce, Sunday, 27 May 2007 10:28 (nineteen years ago)

!! hey wait aminute. Mysterbey, are you the mysterbey I know from LJ!?

Trayce, Sunday, 27 May 2007 10:28 (nineteen years ago)

I can understand that. For a while I thought Dave was singing everything there, and it wasn't until Dave's 1989 solo EP I realized that he sung some of their stuff. His voice is a bit lighter and has a more obvious vibrato, but there are obviously similarities.

They are both males though. ;)

Geir Hongro, Sunday, 27 May 2007 13:58 (nineteen years ago)

Martin's 1989 solo EP I mean.

Geir Hongro, Sunday, 27 May 2007 13:59 (nineteen years ago)

Janis Joplin and Robert Plant sound quite similiar, to the extent I once thought a Janis Joplin tune was a Led Zeppelin one I'd never heard.

I had no idea that Thom Yorke sang on 'El Presidente' by Drugstore until someone told me.

That song is killer in this category. If you're not paying attention, it just sounds like a girl.

I am trying to come up with female singers that sound like Barry Gibb or Leo Sayer, as there ought to be some, but I'm not able to think of any. They sound a lot like each other though.

Geir Hongro, Monday, 28 May 2007 10:38 (nineteen years ago)

If your tinnitus is as bad as mine, Kristin Hersh and Frank Black occasionally.

Bob Six, Monday, 28 May 2007 10:42 (nineteen years ago)

Are there any female singers who sound like Leonard Cohen, Johnny Cash or Lee Marvin?

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 00:53 (nineteen years ago)

horace andy/dawn penn

andrew m., Wednesday, 30 May 2007 20:54 (nineteen years ago)

Jordan Sargent, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 22:50 (nineteen years ago)

Divine and Alice Cooper. Although Divine would have serious problems with the gender test.
