Her East German singing career was very different too. In a subtle dig at how boring life was in the GDR, Nina berates her boyfriend Micha for forgetting to bring a colour film for the camera, so that their holiday on Hiddensee could only be captured in black and white. In 2003, it was estimated that around 40% of East Germans could sing the song's lyrics.

Very interesting backstory of her father being DDR's leading folk/protest singer and how she ended up in the West.

(X-post) Nina always wanted to be an actress like her mother, Eva-Maria Hagen, who had been marketed as a kind of socialist Brigitte Bardot before falling from grace with the East German régime for starting an affair with Wolf Biermann. As As a result of this, Nina was prevented from going to acting school and went to study music instead.
I've seen the film you've linked to, Heute ist Freitag, and Nina was pretty good in it. It reminds me of other East German films of the early 1970s (such as 'Die Legende von Paul und Paula') where GDR film directors were testing the waters of the perceived liberalism after Erich Honecker came to power in 1971. Ironically, it was Honecker's decision to strip Hagen's step-father Wolf Biermann of his citizenship when he was on a concert tour in West Germany in 1976 which brought an end to this misplaced optimism - and also led to Eva-Maria and Nina Hagen moving to the West immediately afterwards.

Her daughter is an actress. I've got to say they are one very attractive family.
