recommend some "outsider"-ish folks who make mysterious but rockin' LPs with lots of guitar

Let's say you're having a few late-night beers and listening to Neil Hagerty and Jim Shepard records... what else do you put on, to continue the vibe? (Maybe even get a little "darker" and more complex.)

George Brigman Jungle Rot
Peter Hammill Nadir's Big Chance
The more psych-rock stuff from Peter Green-era Fleetwod Mac ("Green Manalishi," "Man of the World," etc.)
Peter Green The End of the Game
Peter Laughner's solo stuff (and RFTT)
Cheater Slicks Forgive Thee

Isn't that first track on Nadir's Big Chance the only really *rockin' w/ lots of guitar* one?

That first track is a total proto-punk jammer, and the third our fourth one is a groovy, funky thing. I'm convinced Shepard was a big Hammill fan (although I've never confirmed it). Shepard's darkness, vocal style, and the warped, fairly complex songwriting of Vertical Slit seem inspired by Hammill. I just love both!

Then again, I don't know of anything that's darker and more complex than Under a Blood Red Lava Lamp!

Picking up on the Royal Trux aspect of Hagerty, I'd go with something by the Axemen. Definitely outsider, mysterious, lots of guitar. "Rockin'" is going to depend on your definition of the word.

oops, you already got jungle rot.
also: damon "song of a gypsy" has lots of awesome fuzz, and is at least mostly rockin.

Thanks all! -- and to clarify a bit, I think I meant "rockin'" in a pretty relative way... on the night in question, I was listening to the 2nd and 3rd limited ed. Howling Hex LPs, and wanted more "collage"-style pieces with lots of guitar all over the place, but also anchored with maybe a groovy bassline, or a steady beat, like the Hagerty tracks... having that kind of "rockin'" element. Fred Frith, for example, would have felt too "Knitting Factory" and not "rock"-y enough for the vibe. I finished the night with "Twin Infinitives," which is always fun and had the right mood, but I'm looking for new stuff... looks like there's lots on this thread I can check out.
