Do any ILMers podcast?

We've got some smart people around here, so I imagine an ILMers podcast would have pretty impeccable musical taste & infinitely insightful banter. Anybody?

Hoosteen (Hoosteen), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 16:53 (twelve years ago) Permalink

I did a run of 5 or 6 weekly hour-long podcasts about this time a year ago, linked off my blog, with a proper RSS feed and all the gubbins. I'd love to do more, but no time etc etc.

It was one of the Aesthetics of Pop Stycasts (the Stylus podcast). We've interviewed other ILMers on AoP and a couple of ILMers have/had Stycasts, too.

I would love to listen to people's podcasts. I just wish that these podcast sites were more like internet radio, i.e., concentrated around a few sites instead of scattered all over the place. That way you could pick and choose by style of music and do some socializing too.

If by "podcast" you mean: do I, once every few months, consume a six pack of Mad River Steelhead Double IPA, stay up until 2 or 3 am, put way too much thought into a mix and then post it on my blog?

Then the answer is yes. Because I totally do that.

secret (not so secret now) bonus -- of all people, *I* make an appearance on the above linked bbp podcast. i think it's harder for you guys because you're two people instead of one, there's schedule coordination involved, and also you're not in the same room/state, so there's that too.

anyway, podcast on, ilx.

Cool, I will give those a listen.

I have been considering trying this out myself - any tips? Also, any concerns about the legality of using music, or does everyone just figure if it's niche then nobody will notice?

emil.y, Thursday, 16 January 2014 21:35 (four years ago) Permalink

my feeling about this since college radio days is that as long as you're playing one track and not streaming entire albums, and broadcasting at lower quality, you should be okay?

my podcast is back, after a hiatus of a few months. it's freeform, which most of the time means avant-leaning stuff but has included country, disco, blatant chartpop, blues/folk/gospel in the harry smith milieu, "world" music. sometimes i talk, sometimes i don't. i don't talk on this one.

Oh yes we do. Don't really like the word 'podcast', it's more a radio show we record. Latest in the series is this one (Dutch spoken!)

* Oumou Sangaré - Moussolou [Moussolou (World Circuit)]
* Miaux - Alptraum [Hideaway (Ultra Eczema)]
* Annelies Monseré - Wake III [Debris (Morc Records)]
* Kara-Lis Coverdale - Nu_chanic [Aftertouches (Sacred Phrases)]
* Kara-Lis Coverdale & LXV - Subfall (to) [Sirens (Umor Rex)]
* Steve Reich - Music for Mallet Instruments, Voices and Organ [ Drumming / Music For Mallet Instruments, Voices And Organ / Six Pianos (Deutsche Grammophon)]
* Maxwell Sterling - Hollywood Medieval [Hollywood Medieval (Memory No. 36 Recordings)]
* J.G. Biberkopf - Dust [Ecologies II - Ecosystems Of Excess (Knives)]
