it's at bowery ballroom. i think it's like 20/25 bucks. and rother appears to be performing with a member of simple machines, so it could suck ass. since posting the question though i did a search for info on his recent activity. he has a website with full samples of the new stuff and i have to say it sounds just like the early solo stuff but mellower. promising.

I saw him last year with john frusciante on guitar & josh klinghoffer on drums. It was an outstanding show, all material from the solo albums -- but the songs from the iffy late-period fairlight synth records were rearranged with dual guitar lines & josh's live drums, making them all sound like the first four albums -- I hope Rother releases a live album.

The show had some slow parts, but several songs had extended neu'd out endings that laid my brain out flat, if you are a fan worried about being let down -- Do Not Miss This Show

secret machines or simple machines?

ya' know secret machines covered that Harmonia track (Immer Weider, I think) on their last EP...so it could be pretty cool...

I'd go if I lived anywhere near....I expect nothing short of a full report from anyone who gets to go!

I started listening to his most recent album As Long As the Light and it’s enjoyable so far. I’m very curious what sort of equipment he’ll need to play music from various points in his career. Seems like a ton of gear??

Piggy Lepton (La Lechera), Saturday, 23 November 2024 18:47 (two weeks ago) link

It’s fairly minimal really - Michael and Franz Bargmann on guitars, Hans Lampe on drums (electronic kit) and MR’s partner Vittoria Maccabruni on electronics. Both she and Michael have laptops with a bunch of sequenced and triggered elements I presume.

assert (matttkkkk), Saturday, 23 November 2024 20:19 (two weeks ago) link

All of his drum parts will be electronic kit? That’s kind of a bummer

Piggy Lepton (La Lechera), Saturday, 23 November 2024 20:29 (two weeks ago) link

I guess he can borrow whatever he wants from whomever he wants as he is Michael Rother

Piggy Lepton (La Lechera), Saturday, 23 November 2024 20:29 (two weeks ago) link

i'll be at the SF show

I? not I! He! He! HIM! (akm), Saturday, 23 November 2024 20:52 (two weeks ago) link

global tetrahedron, Saturday, 23 November 2024 20:59 (two weeks ago) link

will also be at the chicago show. saw him in 2010 and it was so good. psyched!

dronestreet, Saturday, 23 November 2024 21:47 (two weeks ago) link

LL the electronic kit sounded good to me - I mean Lampe is presumably in his mid 70s but played rock solid with a pretty light touch. Not disappointed.

assert (matttkkkk), Sunday, 24 November 2024 00:31 (two weeks ago) link

just bought tix to seattle
