top selling out-of-print albums?

I just saw somewhere that Nine Inch Nails' "Pretty Hate Machine" has been out-of-print (and gets reissued at the end of the month). That seems like a pretty high profile record to be temporarily deleted. But is it the highest selling? What other out-of-print albums may top it? Traveling Wilburys, perhaps?

They'll test-market it on iTunes, and if it sells well enough there, they'll consider, I imagine.

Quite a few labels regularly delete albums a while before re-releasing revised / upgraded albums in order to leave time for themselves and the shops to clear their shelves of the old / superceded versions and possibly build up a bit of demand to kick-start sales of the new versions when they are released. This is also why you can frequently pick up the old / superceded versions at bagain prices around this time.

As far as I can tell, very rarely are records deleted simply because they're being reissued. That would be the right thing to do, of course, but these labels will do anything to sell more copies. I remember going to Tower the day before all the remastered Van Halen discs were reissued and they were still well stocked with the flat old versions.

On the other hand, I have a buddy who refuses to restock Talking Heads CDs at his store, because he knows better versions are coming soon. Now that's class!

beatles live at the bbc has got to be up there too.

4 times platinum and out of print. (though since it's a double album that means only about 2 million, maybe less, were actually sold in the u.s. which is still a lot.)

It's back in print. Capitol has had it on "moratorium" at least once, but it's available now.
