Mancini's version is my favourite.

It was played at the funerals of my grandfather, grandmother and father. (Not the Mancini version obv.)

Myra Hess' piano version as played by Dinu Lipatti.

Best version I have is the choir of Kings College, Cambridge.

Also check out the Byrds' 'She Don't Care About Time'.

the William Byrds?

And then there's "Joy", the uptempo '71 hit version by Apollo 100, one of my favourite songs as a pre-schoooler (still own the same 45.)

The William Byrds would be a great band name!

What about The Beach Boys' reinvention as Lady Linda?

When I was a choirboy, we used to sing it as couples signed the marriage register ... people seem to forget the melody in favour of the more ornate intro.

Ooh, I like that Lady Lynda song, cheesy as it may be.

David Qualey's rendition on the stunning "A Winter's Solstice" by Windham Hill Artists (1984 release) is by far the best version I've heard. In fact that entire album is just golden--I've listened to it every Christmas since my birth. Does anyone else have this?
