Songs With "Penny Lane" Trumpet - Piccolo or Otherwise...

I think there's quite a few of these tho, as far as I'm concerned, adding a Penny Lane-style trumpet to your song is the last refuge of a (musical) scoundrel. What yer group is basically saying is, we've written (or we're endeavouring to write) a song that sounds like the Beatles but, just in case you hadn't noticed, WE WILL MAKE IT GLARINGLY FUCKING OBVIOUS THAT WE'RE TRYING TO SOUND LIKE THE FUCKING BEATLES. Case in point:

The Raspberries, I Reach for the Light

Great song but LOSE THE FRIGGIN' TRUMPET!!!!

"This craze for explicitation! Every i dotted to death ... What next! .... Where do you think we are? In Patagonia?"

... as Samuel Beckett wrote... but not about "I Reach for the Light" by the Raspberries... unfortunately...

Tears For Fears, "Sowing the Seeds of Love" -- in fact, I'm fairly sure Roland Orzabal was heard to state in one 1989 MTV interview, "we've written a song that sounds like the Beatles but, just in case you hadn't noticed, WE WILL MAKE IT GLARINGLY FUCKING OBVIOUS THAT WE'RE TRYING TO SOUND LIKE THE FUCKING BEATLES."

Utopia: Hoi Polloi

I love Deface The Music; I remember hearing Paul Gambacini playing I Just Want to Touch You when the album came out, and it was linke hearing Please Please Me for the first time. Anyway, Hoi Polloi now sounds to me like Beatles via Aerovons ... thanks again for sending me that one by the way.

I'll add Fantaastic Day (HC 100) to the list.

Also, McCartney's Family Way soundtrack ... released around the same time.

"Doubleback Alley" by the Rutles, although in this case I think it is okay.

I see no harm in wanting to sound like the Beatles, as long as the performer ADMITS it - or at least doesn't explicitly deny it, even tho it's obvious. And as long as it doesn't suck, of course.

At any rate, I think Fishbone's "Sunless Saturday" had that type of trumpet part. And so did Led Zep's "All My Love", except that it was actually John Paul Jones and his Yamaha GX1.

Damn it, Myonga beat me to "Sunless Saturday".

"Love in an Elevator" by the Aerosmith, I believe, has one towards the end.

...which is somewhat ridiculous.

Gore Veil on the new Deadly Snakes record has one. Though it could be argued that it is a Love - Alone Again Or Trumpet/Piccolo or Whatever.

This is like "Vanity Fair" by Squeeze, who were certainly Beatles enthusiasts in their own right, with trumpet solo grafted on.

Did YouTube not exist when this thread was started? Because I would surely have posted the song that kicked off the thread, "I Reach for the Light" by the Raspberries.
