Expect Omar to elaborate any moment, if he can pull himself away from the new Dutch 'De Subjectivisten' group.

The Quest is probably their most essential release. Neptune's Layer and Harnessed the Storm are good, but not essential. I would recommend picking up last years Other People's Place album on Warp. It is half of Drexciya, and besides Dopplereffkt, the best thing to come out of that camp.
I still need to hear the Transllusion record.

I thought Japanese Telecom is Dopplereffekt.?. Drexciya's air of mystery is not exclusive to them. It seems 1/3 of the Detroit Electro scene maintains secret identities. Even worse, when I tried to license a Dopplereffekt song for a compilation, he wanted $5000 for the use of one song (as opposed to $500 of the other 13 artists). I tried to get Drexciya tracks but they were very poor about responding to messages. This all just shows how Detroit's Techno/Electro scene is self supported and love to put off anyone not in the loop as the other artists and labels I licensed stuff from were very high profile and cooperative (Rephlex, Intuit-Solar, Joey Boy, etc.)

September 3, 2002, came and went like any other day — until that evening, actually, when a message, startling to most, raced through the electronic-music world with lightning speed. James Marcel Stinson, the driving force behind the enigmatic Drexciya outfit, was dead.
etc.

I loath that quote so much. A fine example of a Calimero (as we say around these parts).
(weak spot of course as Eshun stated: Dusseldorf was the Mississippi-delta of techno. :)

So, is there actually any way to acquire "The Quest" without either paying crazy money for it or DLing it illegally? Are there any chances of it being reissued in the future?
― Tuomas, Tuesday, 16 August 2011 12:33 (nine years ago) link
Is The Quest that long out of print? I didn't realize that... I've had my copy for a long time, I suppose. Anyhow, painfully, amazingly classic stuff. I love the side-projects as well. I named my first cat Drexciya.
― Clarke B., Tuesday, 16 August 2011 14:23 (nine years ago) link
The cheapest used (cd) copy of it I could find on sale on the net is over 70 euros, so yeah, it's definitely in need of a reissue.
― Tuomas, Tuesday, 16 August 2011 14:34 (nine years ago) link
There's a copy on ebay which isn't that mad money at the moment. I named my cat heinrich mueller.

It's pretty decent but one of their weaker releases for me. Still, Drexciya's weaker material is better than 99% of all the techno and electro out there
― paolo, Tuesday, 3 July 2018 16:54 (two years ago) link
Drexciya? Isn't that the name of that famous shemale pornstar? I didn't know (s)he made records. But the "Drexciyan race" references would explain all 'hir' extra...appendages.― Lord Custos, Sunday, 17 February 2002 01:00 (sixteen years ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink
