"Nas Pays Neptunes $2million For Amazing Beat"

Can it be worth it? & what the fuck will it sound like?

"The Neptunes are currently rolling in a whole wedge of Benjamins after rapper Nas reportedly paid them $2million for a beat.

The track is reportedly so good that a whole host of Hip Hop’s leading lights were in the running to purchase the miracle cut, including P. Diddy and Busta Rhymes.

Apparently after Rhymes heard that the track had been sold he raged: "Ah sh*t, thats the craziest beat, I ever heard! Those drums man, those drums are fire! If Nas is gonna rap to this beat, it’s going to be over. This will be the biggest hit in the history of hip hop.""

bobbi (bobbi), Monday, 15 August 2005 14:49 (twenty years ago)

TS $2 million beats vs. riddims for all.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 15 August 2005 14:52 (twenty years ago)

'Big hit' and Nas in the same sentence?

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Monday, 15 August 2005 14:55 (twenty years ago)

it will be the law & order theme

3, Monday, 15 August 2005 14:55 (twenty years ago)

sorry, but knowing how erratic nas can be, he will probably ruin this beat
plus, how much pressure can it be to record a song using a beat youve paid that much for?

fizzle, Monday, 15 August 2005 14:55 (twenty years ago)

'Magic Beans Riddim'

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Monday, 15 August 2005 14:56 (twenty years ago)

works on so many levels, this idea.

N_RQ, Monday, 15 August 2005 14:56 (twenty years ago)

man i cant wait for another version of the superthug beat with cheesy keyboard on top!!!!!

3, Monday, 15 August 2005 14:58 (twenty years ago)

maybe they can get some really tinny drums.... pharrell can sing on the hook....

3, Monday, 15 August 2005 14:59 (twenty years ago)

hope it has some wack-ass R&B diva wailing in it

michael burble, Monday, 15 August 2005 15:03 (twenty years ago)

no man, don't you get it, those drums will be CRAZY MAN, like OFF THE HOOK!

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Monday, 15 August 2005 15:04 (twenty years ago)

nas should whisper on this track.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Monday, 15 August 2005 15:04 (twenty years ago)

maybe you can write about it on your dance music blog, 3

beatles fan, Monday, 15 August 2005 15:05 (twenty years ago)

the hook is actually a sped up vocal sample of "slither" by velvet revolver over a slowed down miami booty bass track

beatles fan, Monday, 15 August 2005 15:06 (twenty years ago)

No it's not. I have it on good confidence that it will be the opening snare roll from "It's the End of the World As We Know It," awkwardly looped.

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Monday, 15 August 2005 15:07 (twenty years ago)

this story is a TV comedy sketch waiting to happen. i have a lot of great ideas about the candor and how to film it and everything.

petesmith (plsmith), Monday, 15 August 2005 15:07 (twenty years ago)

nas wouldnt know a good beat if it fucked kelis up the ass.

fizzle, Monday, 15 August 2005 15:08 (twenty years ago)

ok, im kinda turned on now.

3, Monday, 15 August 2005 15:11 (twenty years ago)

this 'beats going to the highest bidder' thing was only a matter of time. soon, Roman Abramovitch will own all of hip hop!

zebedee (zebedee), Monday, 15 August 2005 15:11 (twenty years ago)

If this does happen, I am betting $20 that the rap itself will contain a detailed discussion of how expensive the beat is.

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Monday, 15 August 2005 15:12 (twenty years ago)

it'll come in the intro
'who else in the game could pay 2 mil for a beat? ha ha, cats kill me phareezy"

fizzle, Monday, 15 August 2005 15:14 (twenty years ago)

the second verse is straight fiyaaaaah tho: "niggas be rapping like it's a commercial/acting like life is a big commercial". dayumn.

beatles fan, Monday, 15 August 2005 15:14 (twenty years ago)

yall know this is fake right? file next to ciara's wang and big daddy kane announcing hes got aids

3, Monday, 15 August 2005 15:15 (twenty years ago)

> "If this does happen, I am betting $20 that the rap itself will contain a detailed discussion of how expensive the beat is."

The song will probably be called "Million Dollar Beat"

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Monday, 15 August 2005 15:15 (twenty years ago)

i don't think this is a new phenomenon

Ciara's Wang = punk band name NOW

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Monday, 15 August 2005 15:16 (twenty years ago)

3, Monday, 15 August 2005 15:21 (twenty years ago)

...so i guess that judging from the cost of the beat and the prospective buyers, it'll be some shitty commercial-ass dance bullshit beat-- the kind that wrecked Nas's career-- instead of the hot street shit that he's actually good at, and made him what he is

michael burble, Monday, 15 August 2005 15:22 (twenty years ago)

i heard they flew justin in from rehab just to reprise his 'drums!' shout, this time backed up by the vienna boys choir

3, Monday, 15 August 2005 15:36 (twenty years ago)

Sure it's fake, but it's too much fun to fantasize what that beat would sound like. It's an angels-on-a-pin exercise.

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Monday, 15 August 2005 15:37 (twenty years ago)

i heard the drums feature a marching band, orchestral kettle drums and indian tabla all in perfect sync. thats why theyre so crazy

koool, Monday, 15 August 2005 15:38 (twenty years ago)

there's rumours of a "live" remix performed by spymob

beatles fan, Monday, 15 August 2005 15:39 (twenty years ago)

You appear to have misspelt "Theophilus P Wildebeest".

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 15 August 2005 15:42 (twenty years ago)

Surely this turned out to be Talib Kweli's BROKEN GLASS?!

deej.., Monday, 15 August 2005 15:43 (twenty years ago)

"i remember when hip hop was all about sittin' on the bench, shot callin' and yes yes yallin'..."

oh yeah, what was i thinking? forgot that nas was at his best when he was rapping about orgies and having wack niggaz brag about how long their dicks are. yes, those were the best days of nas's career. if this track doesn't have a generic mechanical bleep-bloop type backdrop that would be hot in the clubs, plenty of crass sexual imagery, and automotive braggadocio i will be sorely disappointed.

michael burble, Monday, 15 August 2005 15:43 (twenty years ago)

they already pressed up 12"s with a native tongues remix (a la 'she wants to move') featuring monie love, yaggfu front, and tukka yoot of us3

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Monday, 15 August 2005 15:51 (twenty years ago)

sorry false rumor upthread- that remix is only spin 4th and jingle bel of yaggfu front, they couldnt get d'ranged the damaged on the track

3, Monday, 15 August 2005 15:52 (twenty years ago)

I heard DFA was doing a remix w britney on the hook, singing along to pharell. Sort of like when Gwen did that moby song.

3, Monday, 15 August 2005 16:05 (twenty years ago)
