a 100% quote of a four year old posting including the spelling mistakes. i am flabbergasted. don't you have an opinion of your own, am0n?

Anybody ever figure out what that track was that had the sample "I was kind of on my own" in one of the fake sets with all the Freescha tunes?

never did ID this track - took me a while to realise it also samples the line "this is the promise of the tree of life" from the Star Wars holiday special.

alex in mainhattan, Monday, 30 November 2009 21:30 (fourteen years ago) link

it's still great but slightly yes than about a month ago. fading slowly away into the silence/past. i wonder if that has to do with the music ageing process they apply.

please elaborate on the music "ageing process"

la monte jung (cutty), Monday, 30 November 2009 21:35 (fourteen years ago) link

they make electronic music sound brittle & old by applying some special techniques. in the beginning they used taping, then analog synths. iirc they copy samples so many times that the end result has got this warm, nostalgic, hissing sound. something like that.

alex in mainhattan, Monday, 30 November 2009 21:50 (fourteen years ago) link

not buying these special techniques

la monte jung (cutty), Monday, 30 November 2009 21:55 (fourteen years ago) link

you know what my ipod shuffled to a minute ago? a remix of alex c of music has the right to children. actually it is more of an r&b cover. sweet.

three weeks pass...

Still *such* a great album - Satellite Anthem Icarus just filled me with such delight that I felt compelled to revive.

Much news on the new one other than the title?

This video is incredible. Watch it in HD if you can. The song is from the Japanese version of the lp.

Are they even still a group?

Raymond Cummings, Tuesday, 19 February 2013 21:17 (eleven years ago) link

As hinted in my intro, I suspect not, but like Orbital, they'll always be brothers, so who knows.

this and the debut are good, geogaddi is less good but people say it's their best to seem learned, tomorrow's harvest was a dirge, idk maybe the eps are ok, fin

imago, Wednesday, 12 December 2018 11:57 (five years ago) link

Call me learned but Geogaddi = MHTRTC > Tomorrow's Harvest >>> Campfire Headphase

frame casual (dog latin), Wednesday, 12 December 2018 12:14 (five years ago) link

Granted I'd say MHTRTC is more consistently enjoyable than Geogaddi which is a rough and bumpy ride and has a few laggy moments but still works nicely as a record and a crystallisation of their... I wanna say 'ethos' or something

frame casual (dog latin), Wednesday, 12 December 2018 12:17 (five years ago) link

The production is exceptional but it's alcan be a little too redolant of knitted hat backpacker beats or something for comfort.

I always feel like this is the blueprint for Satellite Anthem Icarus - https://youtu.be/RS0wzDMfzOQ

I'm not accusing Joni Mitchell of being a knitted hat hippy btw, even if that may literally be true.

In a Beautiful Place is perfect as far as I'm concerned. A perfect EP

frame casual (dog latin), Wednesday, 12 December 2018 12:23 (five years ago) link

Campfire Headphase indeed strays into the kind of tame chillout / trip-hoppy kind of music that was popular about 5 or 6 years before it came out. I do like '84 Pontiac Dream though.

every few years I go back to In A Beautiful Place cause someone I respect touts it, and every few years I find it dull, monotonous.
