What's happening with the new Kingsbury Manx album, The Fast Rise and Fall of the South? Anyone heard it? Anyone have it? Slsk? Tell me more...I can't wait to hear it and would welcome tender morsels from anyone who can share...

I didn't like their second album at all, and I adored their first. I would like to hear this, though.

I haven't heard anything since their first (which I liked for a while, then never listened to again). But the new one is quite nice... seems less drifty and more structured.

The new album is gorgeous. The most into one of their records I've been since the first one.

I haven't heard it yet, but I do know one of the 2 guitarists/vocalists is not with them anymore. The album was also recorded at the studio run by the keyboardist from Wilco. Either that or John McEntire's studio. I forget. Wouldn't be surprised to hear it's less dreamy, they kind of moved away from that on their last album.

They've actually brought back some of the dreaminess, compared to the schmindie-country trend on their 2003 album and EP. After one playing, I'm not sure whether anything matches the best songs on those records, but the overall sound is more lush.

Thank all for the comments. I can't wait to hear it. Is anyone willing to share?

Who has this and is willing to share? I've been looking for it for awhile now! Pretty please with sugar on top?

six years pass...

Jamming the s/t for the first time in years (probably since it came out), and man, what an underrated band! "Piss Diary," "Cross Your Eyes," etc. And not to damn with faint praise but "Hawaii in Ten Seconds" predicts the cavernous reverb sounds of Fleet Foxes, My Morning Jacket, Band Of Jackasses, etc (but does it much, much, much, much, much better). Ahead of their time, for sure, if this came out now everyone would be all 'omg best new music' etc. Never heard any of their later albums, sorta scared to...

What happened to these dudes?

nine months pass...

Well.. They've got a new album called "Bronze age" coming out in March, if anyone's interested. One track's been released and it's good fast Manx. So I'm looking forward to it anyway. Love 'em love 'em.

As for the debut, I was playing it yesterday and thought the same thing about "Hawaii in ten seconds" being a precursor to the Fleet Foxes sound.

that's cool, this band was/is pretty good! precursor to fleet foxes sound i dunno, but i liked the couple albums i've heard by them.

It was really only that one song that foretold Fleet Foxes - the highly reverbed massed harmonies. Their debut seems to try a number of styles on for size and not all of them work perfectly, but the second album settles onto a more consistent style which they have developed since then.

eleven years pass...

First album rules and feels like one of those complete aesthetic experiences that can't be repeated (and probably doesn't need repeating).

(It also still isn't on Spotify.)

I would prefer not to. (Chinaski), Monday, 22 April 2024 19:58 (two weeks ago) link

howard greynolds is a dude! maybe aesthetic completion but i don't know, there's tons of good stuff on subsequent albums, still though yes this is sorta "la femme d'argent" to the debut's moon safari
