when i was an unemployed alcoholic i used to turn found cassette tapes around backwards to see what they sounded like. found a bunch of these the other day: hits: 2nd boyz 2 men album; rush "tom sawyer"; steppenwolf "magic carpet ride"; wout steenhuis "moon river" on hawaiian slide guitar; anyone else ever wasted their time similarly?

I went to a party a long time ago, the music was kinda boring mid ninetys house, (josh wink, junior vasquez, etc.. ) but me and a freind discovered the cheap soundlab record decks had a handy feature of going backwards whilst still being able to use pitch adjust, so we spent a happy 3 hours between 2am and 5am mixing backwards house music.. maybe i was to drunk to notice but it sure sounded good at the time ...

Recently I found out about the "Time Warp" facility in the shareware audio editor Goldwave - I've been spending hours speeding up mp3's, while preserving their original pitch. Tom Waits' "I Don't Want To Grow Up" sounds demonic put through this, if you get the settings wrong.
