Three songs built around three variations of what is pretty much the same riff. Who makes the best use of it?

Whoa, I never noticed that, but you're right. I'm not much for the Stones, and although that Roxy Music song is great I definitely prefer "Changeling".

The Comsat Angels did a nice cover of "Citadel" in a BBC session, though!

I agree, the Roxy takes this and it is not even close.

Hutlock (Hutlock), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 22:07 (eighteen years ago) link

c'mon, it's SO close! despite my fandom for the other two bands, I will plump for the Minds on this one. it's in the drums.

"Street Life." It's the best Roxy Music song, and one of the best of all time. However, I am fond of the other two tracks...

I actually just played the Roxy and Simple Minds tracks back to back to compare/contrast.

Me thinking about Simple Minds: "Yeah, great song, love the riff and the energy and how it ends, great."

Me thinking about Roxy (while dancing around the room like a maniac): "WHAT A FUCKING GREAT GENIUS SONG! WHO NEEDED ENO ANYWAY!"

So there.

Eno reportedly said the exact thing when he heard it, Ned.
