Because it would ruin the mystique for you. It was for your own protection.

my reality remains remarkably unchanged!

Mine too is extremely constant!

But exactly what did they have to do to get Mavers to agree to this?

The Silent Disco of Glastonbury (Bimble...), Sunday, 22 May 2005 04:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Do the La’s get too much credit? Don’t get me wrong because I love that album. It was put out in 1990 and is only about 35 minutes long but has lived on. Around this time I really liked the High's Somewhere Soon and played it just as much as the La’s album, they sound alike. Granted the La’s album probably has stood the test of time better but it seems they are over praised for it. Meanwhile a band called Moose have put out four albums that are also similar but all of those are better than the La’s but no-one talks about Moose.

Either way it’s a good thing because Cast ran out of ideas pretty fast.

and what about dodgy ?
" good enough " is brilliant but it's their only good song.

Took away his weed +/or dole money I imagine.

As though Cast had any in the first place.

Are they getting back together to tour or record a new album (or both?)

Why didn't anyone TELL me The La's had reformed?

`Cos honestly, Bimble, as great as their debut is.....I can't imagine them re-capturing it. Ya can't go home again and all that.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 22 May 2005 17:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I kinda wished they'd stayed broken up, actually....leave one classic album and then split forever, like the Young Marble Giants.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 22 May 2005 17:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I never even liked it that much.

ANyhow, I didn't know they'd ever actually broken up (They'd come out to do gigss every five years or so, getting everybody excited until they heared/saw the gig etc). I know it's more that John Power is back, but there you go...

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 23 May 2005 08:05 (twenty-one years ago)

you didn't ask

revolution babe, Monday, 23 May 2005 16:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahaha...well next time I'll start asking whether the sky will fall, pigs will fly, etc.

`Cos honestly, Bimble, as great as their debut is.....I can't imagine them re-capturing it. Ya can't go home again and all that.

Well first of all you can't make judgements about how good or bad something is before you've heard it. Secondly, I don't know that they're necessarily reforming for any other reason than to do a few gigs. My shock was not so much in thinking of potential brilliant new material that might come out of this, but for the sheer fact that their reformation seemed so improbable given what I knew of Mavers. I mean, if you had asked me to name the most unlikely of all the bands to reform, I would have put the sheer improbability of this right up there with The Smiths.

But Mark Grout says they've done gigs before and I appreciate that information. One can't always easily learn these things in the states.

Also it does my heart good to hear BeeOK (or anyone really) mention The High's Somewhere Soon. I loved that album too and the last time I pulled it out, it still held up really well. But I see no reason to rank it above The La's album.

The Silent Disco of Glastonbury (Bimble...), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 01:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Agree Silent Disco, as I don't think today I would rate it above the La's album but at time of release I probably played the High more.

I'm still brand spanking new to ILM, discovered last November and than the board went away for a bit. I have been a fixture on the CMJ, and now it’s the Obner board, for a long, long time but it's nice to mention, say the High, and people actually know what the hell I'm talking about. I still love Obner but ILM has stolen my heart as of late.

Apparently (according to Stuart Moxham, who played a show a month or so back in London) the YMG have reformed & have been recording an LP.
Happens to everyone.
*sigh*.

Even so, I'm excited about the impending La's shows. Incidentally, it's looking like I have a spare ticket for the Shepherd's Bush gig, if anyone is looking for one.
