Actually, replace "Building Steam..." with "High Noon".

MORE.

the prodigy - wind it up / voodoo people
depeche mode - it's no good (speedy j mix) (this is the superfast one, right?)
conemelt - crash, bang

and erm,

frankie goes to hollywood - born to run

rentboy (rentboy), Thursday, 11 November 2004 16:28 (nineteen years ago) link

Is this because your son wants to be Dash from The Incredibles?

Pink - There You Go (Sovereign Mix)
Basement Jaxx - Where's Your Head At?

adam... (nordicskilla), Thursday, 11 November 2004 16:34 (nineteen years ago) link

oneida, "sheets of easter." can you run fast for like 25 minutes?

andrew m. (andrewmorgan), Thursday, 11 November 2004 16:39 (nineteen years ago) link

"Breadfan" - Metallica. Not that I ever run really fast.

Wooden (Wooden), Thursday, 11 November 2004 16:46 (nineteen years ago) link

Well, the other night I made a complete tit out of myself by running around and around an otherwise empty club room to 'Hood Street Gyratory' by Shrug, so I would suggest that.

emil.y (emil.y), Thursday, 11 November 2004 17:05 (nineteen years ago) link

Deep Purple - Speed King

briania (briania), Thursday, 11 November 2004 17:09 (nineteen years ago) link

Early '90s techno (or hardcore or whatever it was called): Set Up System's "Fairy Dust," T99 "Anastasia," Quadrophonia, Bomb the Bass, N-Joi, Underground Resistance, etc. Because "rave" and "race" are almost the same word.

Nemo (JND), Thursday, 11 November 2004 17:12 (nineteen years ago) link

Deep Purple's "Highway Star" would probably work, too.

Nemo (JND), Thursday, 11 November 2004 17:13 (nineteen years ago) link

A song that makes me WANT to run really fast is Stereo by Spooky.

Bill A, Thursday, 11 November 2004 17:20 (nineteen years ago) link

I used to get myself psyched up for cross country races by listening to Husker Du's version of "Eight Miles High."

Bren (Bren), Thursday, 11 November 2004 17:53 (nineteen years ago) link

Booker T & the MG's - "Hang 'Em High"

Grass Roots - "I'd Wait a Million Years"

The Cult - "Fire Woman"

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Thursday, 11 November 2004 18:33 (nineteen years ago) link

Happy Family - "Rock & Young"

Dominique (dleone), Thursday, 11 November 2004 18:43 (nineteen years ago) link

Superchunk - 'Precision Auto'

Graeme (Graeme), Thursday, 11 November 2004 18:47 (nineteen years ago) link

I run four miles a day, and I couldn't do it without music. Surprisingly enough, its not the cliche "peppy" stuff that always motivates me. Some days I listen to spacey ambient stuff (really loud!) and it can get me into the right headspace to do what I need to do.

Try to be best
‘Cause you’re only a man
And a man’s gotta learn to take it

Try to believe
Though the going gets rough
That you gotta hang tough to make it

History repeats itself
Try and you’ll succeed

Never doubt that you’re the one
And you can have your dreams!

You’re the best!
Around!
Nothing’s gonna ever keep you down
You’re the Best!
Around!
Nothing’s gonna ever keep you down
You’re the Best!
Around!
Nothing’s gonna ever keep you dow-ow-ow-ow-own

Fight ‘til the end
Cause your life will depend
On the strength that you have inside you

Ah you gotta be proud
starin’ out in the cloud
When the odds in the game defy you

Try your best to win them all
and one day time will tell
when you’re the one that’s standing there
you’ll reach the final bell!

You’re the best!
Around!
Nothing’s gonna ever keep you down
You’re the Best!
Around!
Nothing’s gonna ever keep you down
You’re the Best!
Around!
Nothing’s gonna ever keep you dow-ow-ow-ho-how-ho-own

INSPIRING GUITAR SOLO

You’re the best!
Around!
Nothing’s gonna ever keep you down
You’re the Best!
Around!
Nothing’s gonna ever keep you down
You’re the Best!
Around!
Nothing’s gonna ever keep you dow-ow-ow-ow-own

Fight ‘til you drop
never stop
can’t give up
Til you reach the top (FIGHT!)
you’re the best in town (FIGHT!)
Listen to that sound
A little bit of all you got
Can never bring you down

You’re the best!
Around!
Nothing’s gonna ever keep you down
You’re the Best!
Around!

repeat to fade, occasional background shouts of “Oh Ye-eah!”

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 11 November 2004 20:01 (nineteen years ago) link

Oh yeah, sometimes ambienty stuff is the best. Also, pounding pinnacle of faggotry house music.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 11 November 2004 20:02 (nineteen years ago) link

Also,

Ghostface - Run!
B&S - Stars of Track & Field / Loneliness of a Middle Distance Runner
Roy Ayers - Running Away
Information Society - Running

etc

rentboy (rentboy), Thursday, 11 November 2004 21:43 (nineteen years ago) link

Superfast music -- like say, vintage Bad Brains or someone -- probably isn't the best, or at least not for helping you set a pace. I'd imagine you'd be better served by something with a steady, quick pulse -- like something by Underworld or something. The last time i went out for a run that I remember -- suffice to say, it does not happen often -- I think i played William Orbit's "Adagio for Strings" Remix and "Juanita/Kiteless" by Underworld.

so true. i was surprised at how great magnetic fields' Charm of the Highway Strip was for running, for instance. not what i would have expected.

eye of the tiger - survivor
works expecially well if you're near a many-stepped library.

I learned two years ago that my jogging pace is precisely timed to the BPM of 90% of the hits from Tommy James & the Shondells. It won't help your REALLY FAST running but it might be helpful if you're out for a Sunday jog ...

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Friday, 12 November 2004 02:55 (nineteen years ago) link

I just used "Juanita/Kiteless" last week!
As far as bpm goes, I find that if its close, but still off your ideal pace, it can fuck you up.

peepee (peepee), Friday, 12 November 2004 03:01 (nineteen years ago) link

I don't run so fast anymore, but if I want to swim fastly, I just have to imagine the theme from Jaws by John Williams. (the other John Williams)

jim wentworth (wench), Friday, 12 November 2004 03:29 (nineteen years ago) link

armin van buuren vs m.i.k.e. - pound
paul kalkbrenner - zeit
alden tyrell - phaze me (instrumental)
hatiras - spaced invader (j majik remix)

none of which are tested, mind you.
