Isn't the Anderson Theater material the same stuff that was on Live Yardbirds! from 1971 and on various bootlegs since then? And the studio tracks I think I've seen on other bootlegs too

I went and nerded out on the rock instruments exhibit at the Met this weekend, stood in awe before Page's ENTIRE ZEPPELIN TOUR RIG + all the guitars...+ the stolen and returned black beauty he played on the session work

Anyway I was inspired to share this mix I made years ago...this is just about everything w/ some fun interspersing odds and ends....hit me up if you'd like!

I thought he played on more than just one Polnareff tracks but apparently not.
He also played on Françoise Hardy's "Je n'attends plus personne" and "Je veux qu'il revienne".
(and for Johnny Halliday and Eddy Mitchell... two other french singers although their stage names might indicate otherwise !).

Hoping to get to the Met in the next couple of days. perhaps more important to me that Page's set up is Jeff Beck's Telecaster that the "Heart Full Of Soul" solo fell out of.

Great mix. Kind of mindblowing he played on so much stuff I never expected ("Downtown", "Is It True", It's Not Unusual", etc etc). Wow!

Carly Jae Vespen (Capitaine Jay Vee), Saturday, 27 April 2019 22:08 (four years ago) link

Page isn’t on “I Can’t Explain” (because Townshend wouldn’t let Page use his 12-string), but he is on the b-side, “Bald Headed Woman” (because Page wouldn’t let Townshend use his fuzz box).

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Saturday, 27 April 2019 22:19 (four years ago) link

iirc he played the rhythm?

d'ILM for Murder (Hadrian VIII), Saturday, 27 April 2019 22:22 (four years ago) link

hey hadrian, maybe you could post this someplace? mixcloud or soundcloud? some obscure bootleg site?

calstars, Sunday, 28 April 2019 01:09 (four years ago) link

iirc he played the rhythm?

Listen during the guitar solos — there’s no rhythm guitar under them. There’s (faint) piano, but the only guitar on the song is Townshend’s.

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Sunday, 28 April 2019 02:08 (four years ago) link

ahh yes ok...I guess this is how that story came to be:

In a May 1974 interview with Creem, Jimmy Page recalled playing rhythm guitar on the song as a session guitarist[4]. This was confirmed by Pete Townshend and producer Shel Talmy.[5] According to those working on the recordings, however, Page's contribution did not make the final cut.

Had no idea he was a session musician of sorts.

Here’s everything he played on:

Just found out he played on Vashti Bunyan’s 1965 album too

I don't know if it qualifies as his "work", but Page wrote the riff that Bowie turned into "The Supermen".

Can we be shown weirdos + Jimmy Page?
