an ex was very into the misfits (who i hadn't heard since jr. high.) after mutch exposure to the boxset, i had grudgingly admit they had some great songs. (the new stuff is irredeemable shite though.)

It is weird how their muffled sound and indecipherably garbled Elvis stylings can be catchy. Who Killed Marylin?, Where Eagles Dare, and the entire Walk Among Us album. I ain't no goddamn son of a bitch is about the best line ever. I had the chance to read some of the lyrics since the box set came out and I didn't realize how fucked up some most of it is. I mean, the obvious lyrics are wacked, but the indecipherable shit is sometimes even weirder.

Sure. Especially the version on Static Age. Makes me wanna go make out with some dyed-black-hair chick.

It was only early this year that I really got into The Misfits. I have not heard post- Danzig yet, but with Danzig I think they could almost do no wrong. Great pop songs, great attitude, great horror movie references, great singer. They're a big bowl of fun, kids.

As a teenager, I was not into classic punk. If I had been, I like to think I would've been a Misfits fan. I was such an angst-y virginal hoser though that I probably woulda liked Husker Du or something instead. Thank you.

When I was 15 I liked them because they were punk rock and sung about cool stuff.. like, you know, skulls.

Pulling out Static Age again.. the songs are unintentionally (I think) atmospheric and really pretty interesting.

And yes, "Come Back" among others is definitely underrated, especially compared to many of the more well-known tunes.. "Halloween" especially.

Precisely. That's alright, but I was never into that. The thing is that I dont like the Misfits when they play US-type punk rock - I dont like American PUNK ROCK in general - but the Misfits occasionally had the brilliant idea of doing Gun Clubsy, LA Woman- esque blues numbers which are utterly great. Nick Cave should cover "Come Back", you know. Johnny Cash, even. Scott Walker! Basically, any growler should give it a shot. It could be quite interesting. A large orchestra, thundering bass drum rolls...

at least they're still campy and sing about horror movies with the new guy unlike Glenn Danzig who's touring around posing like a glamfag doing "industrial metal" or whatever.

Glenn Danzig has gotta be gay. I mean come on.

Hahaha! I was OK with what I could decipher of "Bullet". Then I read the lyrics and realized what the lines about Jackie were saying...

Bullet is one of the most vicious punk songs ever

President’s bullet-ridden body in the street
Ride, johnny ride
Kennedy’s shattered head hits concrete
Ride, johnny ride

Johnny’s wife is floundering
Johnny’s wife is scared
Run, jackie run

Texas is an outrage when your husband is dead
Texas is an outrage when they pick up his head
Texas is the reason that the president’s dead
You gotta suck, suck, jackie suck

President’s bullet-ridden body in the street
Ride, johnny ride
Kennedy’s shattered head hits concrete
Ride, johnny ride

Texas is an outrage when your husband is dead
Texas is an outrage when they pick up his head
Texas is the reason that the president’s dead
You gotta suck, suck, jackie suck

Arise jackie o, jonathon of kennedy
Well, arise and be shot down
The dirt’s gonna be your dessert
My cum be your life source
And the only way to get it
Is to suck or fuck
Or be poor and devoid
And masturbate me, masturbate me
Then slurp it from your palm
Like a dry desert soaking up rain
Soaking up sun
Like a dry desert soaking up rain
Soaking up sun

well, as much as "Bullet" is awesome, "Come Back" is a fine, brooding kind of punque roque…
