They probably didn't ask for a thread about the new Rachel Stevens single

But they're getting one anyway.

Popjustice have been building this and The Show as the two big things in pop this year. Popjustice are OTF'nM. When they hit, 2004 has fucking turned round bigstyle. #1 with a bullet, and popular music is Richard X's BITCH.

If nothign else, it's the best charity record ever. Possibly because it hasn't got fuck all to do with the charity in question (Sport Relief).

I haven't heard it yet, but it's Richard X.. so it has to be good.. That reminds me, I still need to buy his album.

It is perfect and The Show is perfect and everything is thusly PERFECT, except the Some Girls video needs more (some) silver, but otherwise PERFECT

Those who wish to find otu mroe about how this actually sounds can probably get a somewhat better idea here. Specifically in the second post.

More talking about this please!!!

It's bloody great, isn't it? Hopefully this revitalises her as a viable artist leading to the release of the mighty "Fools" as a single after this.

ANyway, who was it on here who said that Goldfrapp might end up being the most influential artist of 2003? You, Swygart? Anyway, Richard X clearly listened to "Strict Machine" and said "I could do that better".

Yes! I am NOTABLE! Whoo!

Somehow it's not quite so good this morning, mind, but still - it's very instant, isn't it? But it's like another episode in some kind of Richard X's sci-fi series about popular music, sort of Blade Runner-esque - the sun definitely isn't out, it's all lit by lime & fuchsia neon. Which means that when I see the video (by RICHARD FUCKING CURTIS jesushchrist...) I will be awfully disappointed, won't I?

Plus also - fade to lone vocal at the end Actually Fucking Works for the first time in ever...

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 09:48 (thirteen years ago) Permalink

Who's the sporty fella in the video who isn't Pat Cash or Colin Jackson? Audley Harrison? Based on the 45 seconds I saw on The Hits channel it's the Single Of The Year, just ahead of Jamelia's "Thank You", but I don't know what I'm talking about or even what that means.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 09:54 (thirteen years ago) Permalink

It has to be somebody the BBC could have got at the time, which would put Harrison in line. However, he doesn't like them anymore, so he'll probably get replaced by John Regis or Andy Fordham.

Perhaps more importantly... WHERE CAN ONE HEAR HER COVER OF "KNOCK ON WOOD"? It'll either be the best thing or worst thing ever...

edward o (edwardo), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 10:11 (thirteen years ago) Permalink

This song is really fucking awesome. And she looks properly good in the video, too - the weird hair actually suits her!

I still haven't heard "The Show", grr grr.

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 10:21 (thirteen years ago) Permalink

How 'The Show' might sound, perhaps

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 10:23 (thirteen years ago) Permalink

I spent the last 2 weeks hearing the last 10 seconds of "The Show" on radio in the car and getting very upset when Slsk wasn't working to get it. it was incredibly annoying.

Oh hell, I hope I'll hear either track on my breif return to London.

'Some Girls'.

The charity event it is attached to for no reason whatsoever is Sport Relief.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 20:20 (thirteen years ago) Permalink

Jesus is "Some Girls" a great song.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Sunday, 27 June 2004 04:53 (thirteen years ago) Permalink

I'm glad someone else loves it too!

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Sunday, 27 June 2004 11:26 (thirteen years ago) Permalink

We all have to love "Some Girls" - it's the song of the year (so far) for me.

Jedmond (Jedmond), Sunday, 27 June 2004 12:36 (thirteen years ago) Permalink

First third of 2004 was all about "Milkshake" vs "Toxic" vs "Yeah". Second third (the summer!) is "Some Girls" vs "The Show".

The lyrics haven't been mentioned yet! They're brilliant and funny, and I like the way she pretty much demands that we send her to No 1. Also, the "my baby drives a car" and "my baby waits for me" are magnificent - capturing a mood without ever meaning anything specific. Oh yeah, and the "hey!"s are GREAT too.

The Lex (The Lex), Sunday, 27 June 2004 12:40 (thirteen years ago) Permalink

It's not as good as Galang.
