Yes, they are the exact same song, but you must make a decision. Must.

David Allen (David Allen), Thursday, 29 April 2004 01:00 (twenty-two years ago)

the problem is, no one has heard weird al's albuquerque.

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 29 April 2004 01:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Last song on his seminal "Running with Scissors" LP.

Someone here has to have heard it, or is willing to download it.

David Allen (David Allen), Thursday, 29 April 2004 01:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Wait so you mean its possible this Craig Finn guy could have been inspired by TWO different songs? Holy shit!

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 29 April 2004 01:22 (twenty-two years ago)

HA. i hate craig finn.

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 29 April 2004 01:30 (twenty-two years ago)

and nothing weird al has ever done is seminal. but i welcome anyone to come to his defense, his parents just died for godsakes.

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 29 April 2004 01:31 (twenty-two years ago)

there's quite a few Weird Al songs I dig back when he utilized a more Spike Jones-ian production technique.

I'm just welcoming the chance to note that every single Lifter Puller and Hold Steady sounds like "Ice Of Boston" by Ice Of Boston from the album Ice Of Boston.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 29 April 2004 01:35 (twenty-two years ago)

i was thinkin about that dismemberment plan song today. and was all "do ir eally need to buy this album for this song???" and i didn't. but, now that it's a few years on, should i get that album anyway?

Ian Johnson (orion), Thursday, 29 April 2004 01:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm personally more of a fan of the two following albums, esp. Change. If anything I'd probably recommend Lifter Puller's Soft-Rock if you want more songs that have that kind of yelled-verse/half-sung chorus vibe.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 29 April 2004 01:42 (twenty-two years ago)

well, i have the other dp albums, so i'm a bit hesitant to spend the dough on what amounts to, at this point, "more of the same"

Ian Johnson (orion), Thursday, 29 April 2004 01:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought the stuff on Is Terrified was pretty marginal. Definitely less melodic. "Ice Of Boston" was the definite stand-out. You can listen to it on Realplayer off of www.dismembermentplan.com

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 29 April 2004 01:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Is Terrified is very different from the later albums! It's coming more directly from a post-hardcore direction. There are plenty of melodies to latch onto, but it's more spastic than anything else. "Ice of Boston" may stand out the most, but there are much better songs - "That's When the Party Started," "It's So You," and especially especially don't write off the album until you've heard "Respect Is Due"

Sonny A. (Keiko), Thursday, 29 April 2004 02:27 (twenty-two years ago)

And Anthony, I'm not sure I understand your position on Lifter Puller... do you dare hate?

Sonny A. (Keiko), Thursday, 29 April 2004 02:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Im telling you, listen to the two songs back to back.

David Allen (David Allen), Thursday, 29 April 2004 03:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I love how Craig Finn was inspired by a record that came out three years after his band formed.

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Thursday, 29 April 2004 03:26 (twenty-two years ago)

"I influence the past," John Cage, yadda yadda.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 29 April 2004 03:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Personally, I'm more interested in the post-punk spazzy Dismemberment Plan, so I'd say that Is Terrified is worth getting for so many good reasons. I mean, the Ice of Boston>Academy Award>Bra>Do the Standing Still sequence alone is up there. At least give the whole thing a try - I think you can listen to it all free through the official site.

Weird Al > Frank Zappa > donkey balls > "Basho"-fuckface > Eric Clapton > Ringo > Dismemberment Plan

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 29 April 2004 03:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Girolamo Savonarola, Thursday, 29 April 2004 03:47 (twenty-two years ago)

My work here on this planet is done.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 29 April 2004 03:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I read just yesterday that D.P. took their name from the scene in the movie "Groundhog Day" where the recurrent insurance salesman offered a special "dismemberment plan". Dig it!

avery schreiber, Thursday, 29 April 2004 12:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I love how Craig Finn was inspired by a record that came out three years after his band formed.

really? I had no idea. I'm impressed he's been able to speak the same song over and over for so many years.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 29 April 2004 12:28 (twenty-two years ago)
