during one of my high school spanish classes, our teacher, who was more of your younger, more happenin' sort of spanish teacher, as opposed to your more typical older, less happenin' sort of spanish teacher, would have us listen to a different spanish or mexican pop songs every day for a week while reading along with the lyrics that she'd printed out for us (singing along was encouraged but nobody really did). "cien gaviotas" by duncan dhu was one of those songs and man was it totally infectious! i believe this song may be classified as a "ditty"
waaaay better than the other choice of hers that i can recall, which was by more of your menudo-style type of latin pop group, that is to say, not as good and in fact pretty bad:
