First mp3: "Gimme Shelter"

Begins with swirling guitars and then picks up almost into a Motorik-esque pulse. The vocals sound like some 60s bands on Forrest Gump soundtrack that I never bothered to listen to (particularly during the chorus). Maybe the Jeffereson Airplane? I don't know; the chord progression reminds me a lot of this stuff too. Lots of synths and psych guitars.

Not bad thusfar.

Lil' Fancy Kpants (The K is Silent) (ex machina), Tuesday, 13 April 2004 18:18 (twenty-two years ago)

"Reefer Madness": The pulse seems to have taken a big influence from Neu! but the songwriting seems more like mainline early 70s. I wish the synths were higher in the mix.... Hmm, the drumming seems to have changed a bit? I dunno how I feel about the piano.

Lil' Fancy Kpants (The K is Silent) (ex machina), Tuesday, 13 April 2004 18:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Wow, this synth and sax part RULES THE SCHOOL!!!!!

Lil' Fancy Kpants (The K is Silent) (ex machina), Tuesday, 13 April 2004 18:24 (twenty-two years ago)

John Zorn / Eye : "Bad Hawkwind"

(18 minute track consisting of tape loop of Eye shrieking mixed into light reverb)

(Jon L), Tuesday, 13 April 2004 18:25 (twenty-two years ago)

You know me all too well :(

Lil' Fancy Kpants (The K is Silent) (ex machina), Tuesday, 13 April 2004 18:27 (twenty-two years ago)

"The Psychedelic Warlords": This sounds like it will at any moment bring the organ up in the mix and become either Neu! or a shitty Doors song.

Lil' Fancy Kpants (The K is Silent) (ex machina), Tuesday, 13 April 2004 18:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Get "Doremifasolatido" (or whatever it's called - it has a Motorhead lookin black-and-silver cover) and "Space Ritual"

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 13 April 2004 18:30 (twenty-two years ago)

"psychedelic overlords"

Lil' Fancy Kpants (The K is Silent) (ex machina), Tuesday, 13 April 2004 18:34 (twenty-two years ago)

That's a fine misspelling, actually.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 13 April 2004 19:26 (twenty-two years ago)

You need:

In Search Of Space (for "You Shouldn't Do That" and "We Took The Wrong Step Years Ago")
Doremi Fasol Latido
Space Ritual

and Warrior On The Edge Of Time.

(I don't love Hall Of The Mountain Grill the way some do.)

Phil Freeman (Phil Freeman), Tuesday, 13 April 2004 19:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I second Quark Strangeness and Charm!
And all of the above, especially Space Ritual!
This is only my second post on ILM...I host a psychedelic radio program on a college radio station in Missouri called 8 miles high.
I suppose this is the right way to introduce myself, then.
Silver Machine totally rules, too.

Sean Witzman (trip maker), Tuesday, 13 April 2004 19:39 (twenty-two years ago)

In Search Of Space (for "You Shouldn't Do That" and "We Took The Wrong Step Years Ago")

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 13 April 2004 19:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey TRIPMAKER! Welcome! Ha ha, I know you...

Uh, and Hawkwind -- maybe the greatest musical influence on me and mine. The first six albums are so, so good.

Hurlothrumbo (hurlothrumbo), Tuesday, 13 April 2004 19:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Woah. Someone here knows me? That's great!

free your spirit pig (La Lechera), Friday, 21 June 2013 14:06 (twelve years ago)

Uh yeah, I think I am going to have to go to this

World-renowned space rock pioneers HAWKWIND have announced the dates for their first North American tour in nearly 20 years and Empty Bottle Presents is honored to host them at the Logan Square Auditorium. At the helm of the group is leader and founding member DAVE BROCK, and he is joined by long time members DEAD FREAD, TIM BLAKE, RICHARD CHADWICK, MR. DIBS and NIALL HONE - HAWKWIND's longest standing line up. The tour commemorates the anniversary and re-release of the band's landmark 1975 album, Warrior on the Edge of Time. HAWKWIND will perform the album in it's entirety along with classic tracks selected from their 40+ year history. The tour will include a full light show, cosmic space dancers, and psychedelic projections and is sure to be a far out experience. Joining the group as support on all dates is the Boston-based psychedelic/progressive rock group PERHAPS.
