I started working on 1983 a while ago (for personal use really, as I'm a semi-lurker round here), but never got round to finishing it off. I'm v. interested in seeing how dc's differs from mine. If they're significantly different, I might get round to finishing mine off and posting it.

So, did '83 ever get done, DB? Anyone else do/redo other years?

Thomas Inskeep (submeat), Saturday, 19 March 2005 02:59 (nineteen years ago) link

1983

donut debonair (donut), Saturday, 19 March 2005 03:13 (nineteen years ago) link

i still put stuff in my 1974 folder from slsick all the time!

j blount (papa la bas), Saturday, 19 March 2005 03:23 (nineteen years ago) link

I will complete 1971 this weekend. you betta believe it.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Saturday, 19 March 2005 07:54 (nineteen years ago) link

ROCK.

Also, is there a dedicated "Mine the Gap" thread?

Thomas Inskeep (submeat), Sunday, 20 March 2005 01:44 (nineteen years ago) link

Can my 1981 set have honourary CDR Go! status? It'd fit on about 3 mp3-CDs, probably.

I.M. (I.M.), Sunday, 20 March 2005 01:50 (nineteen years ago) link

thomas -- no dedicated Mine The Gap thread yet that I know of, though Matos was the first to make a Mine The Gap under that moniker unless I'm mistaken (Matos?), but this thread should suffice for now, as it is relatively low traffic.

I.M. -- not a problem! Yeah, it would be a Multiple CDR-Go, but that's just fine.. (I did a 2xCDRGO for 1988 myself)

donut debonair (donut), Sunday, 20 March 2005 04:20 (nineteen years ago) link

Donut, did you get my email? Sent it to your KUCI and Hotmail addresses.

Thomas Inskeep (submeat), Sunday, 20 March 2005 20:17 (nineteen years ago) link

Might someone consider turning this amazing collection into an '81 CDRGo? [My computer won't let it happen at the present.] It's a pretty damned impressive collection.

Thomas Inskeep (submeat), Sunday, 20 March 2005 20:19 (nineteen years ago) link

Recently on a disco thread I asked if there had ever been a Disco CDR-Go ever made on ILM cause I have kindof wanted one for awhile. Someone (I believe Jody?) said she was gonna make one.

Bimble... (Bimble...), Thursday, 24 March 2005 18:15 (nineteen years ago) link

A CdrGo! Disc-O would be great, I think. This could be a series actually.

Hello there. There is no way in fucking hell I'll ever want to finish the 1975 CDR GO! You wanna do it? Run with it, then.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Sunday, 7 August 2005 18:36 (eighteen years ago) link

I wouldn't want to do it, but what have you done so far Michael?

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Sunday, 7 August 2005 19:18 (eighteen years ago) link

I will!

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Sunday, 7 August 2005 19:56 (eighteen years ago) link

I'm already halfway done with one.. haha.

donut ferry (donut), Sunday, 7 August 2005 20:50 (eighteen years ago) link

Michael, we could collaborate if you want.

(Snrub, you can do one too. There's no exclusivity here.)

donut ferry (donut), Sunday, 7 August 2005 20:51 (eighteen years ago) link

Good! I will!

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Sunday, 7 August 2005 20:59 (eighteen years ago) link

Any word on:

1974 - Blount?
1971 - Stormy?

donut ferry (donut), Sunday, 7 August 2005 21:35 (eighteen years ago) link

..cuz I'll take over these in the coming weeks if nothing materializes. (you can still work on them, but I'm going to go ahead and start these as well.. I mean to say.)

donut ferry (donut), Sunday, 7 August 2005 21:36 (eighteen years ago) link

Patrin did each year between 70 and 74, 100 songs each.

Did the 1975 one ever get finished?

LOL Thomas (Chris Barrus), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 01:06 (seventeen years ago) link

Also it looks like http://www.cdrgo.org/ got taken over...

LOL Thomas (Chris Barrus), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 01:07 (seventeen years ago) link

No, I abandoned 1975 because I got too ambitious and I just got TIRED of doing MP3-related things.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 01:33 (seventeen years ago) link

I got cdrgo.net... I abandoned cdrgo.org because my isp wants too much money to get it back, and I told 'em to stuff it.

DOQQUN (donut), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 02:08 (seventeen years ago) link

I'll happily take over 1975.

DOQQUN (donut), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 02:08 (seventeen years ago) link

Well, these things aren't exclusive to people, but I'll be working on 1975 pretty soon here, at least.

DOQQUN (donut), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 02:24 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm maybe 75-80% done with my 1975 CDRGO! I am bound and determined to finish it. I'm being very very selective about the songs I put on it. If the song doesn't kick all sorts of ass, I ain't putting it on. And the problem is there really aren't all that many kickass songs from 1975.

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 02:50 (seventeen years ago) link

Somebody posted a list of CDRGO!s for each year of the 1970s, but I remember the 1975 one was a bit shite.

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 02:52 (seventeen years ago) link

Ah! Here it is!

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 03:00 (seventeen years ago) link

"A bit shite"?

Stupornaut (natepatrin), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 04:00 (seventeen years ago) link

(You're just pissed I came up with Neu! into Kiss before you did.)

Stupornaut (natepatrin), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 04:01 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh, Snrub bitched about every CDRGo I did too. That's just par for the course.

Nate and I in band-match-but-not-necessarily-song-match mind-meld list shockah-or-not... (I had made a list, then looked at your list in the link.. heh heh)

DOQQUN (donut), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 05:28 (seventeen years ago) link

So, my question.. "Little Johnny Jewel" single... 1975 release? or 1976 release?

DOQQUN (donut), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 05:30 (seventeen years ago) link

'75. I believe there were ads for it in Creem that year.

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 05:40 (seventeen years ago) link

MM reissue booklet states 10/75.

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 05:41 (seventeen years ago) link

did the tracks of 2005 CDR700 thing ever get finished?

fandango (fandango), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 05:45 (seventeen years ago) link

Rickey: cool! Thank you. the dark blue on black font makes the MM reissue a bit hard to read.

DOQQUN (donut), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 08:03 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh, Snrub bitched about every CDRGo I did too.

I did?

"A bit shite"?

Sorry. That was very rude of me.

Anyway, "Expansions" is from 1974, "Mothership Connection" and "Do You Feel Like We Do?" are from 1976.

When did "King Tubby Meets the Rockers Uptown" come out? The All-Music Guide says 1976, but that was just the US release of the LP. When was the original single with "Baby I Love You So" on the B-Side released?

"Little Johnny Jewel" was definitely 1975.

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 09:55 (seventeen years ago) link

1) I have read like 15 different conflicting reports of which year "Mothership Connection" actually came out. I am still unsure, but my gut tells me it was released December '75.
2) "DYFLWD" was recorded in '75; for live tracks I go by date of show rather than date of release.
3) For jazz records I go by actual date of release, not recording. AMG has a weird thing with jazz album release date attribution in that it goes by recording date instead of release date, though it does say on the page under "Releases" that the LP came out on Flying Dutchman in '75.
4) "King Tubby..." was '75 according to Tapir's Discography, a site which saved me many headaches since reggae single release dates prove notoriously slippery.

Stupornaut (natepatrin), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 13:52 (seventeen years ago) link

(Even AMG can't decide whether Mothership Connection was '75 or '76, compare the review with the release info. When in doubt, I consult the Motherpage.)

Stupornaut (natepatrin), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 13:55 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm going to claim dibs on 1971 if I don't hear anything.

LOL Thomas (Chris Barrus), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 15:57 (seventeen years ago) link

"Ride On" from Chocolate City will be goin' on mine for this.. i'm sure that album is less ambiguously '75 anyway. As for borderline cases, *shrug* just use it if it works best... Amii Stewart's "Knock On Wood" has a 1978 copyright date, although no one is sure if it was released in very late December '78, or early Jan 1979 (last I checked)... but I used it for '78 anyway.

snrub: ok, maybe not every one, but your comments on the 1991 I did were really shouty and funny :D

LOL Thomas: shore!

DOQQUN (donut), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 15:58 (seventeen years ago) link

1975 is turning out to be a bit more fun than I thought because, dare I say, it's the "easiest" one. There were lots of great songs that year, despite many comments above and over in the 1975 threads, but I do agree it may have been the most overall dud-erific year for great songs in that it's hard to achieve that "OMG I have Soooooo many great songs to choose from, I now have to spend a week weeding them out LOL!" status -- and I don't need to be overwhelmed with a wealth of A+ songs right now...

DOQQUN (donut), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 16:02 (seventeen years ago) link

(Then again, I've yet to go through all the soul/R&B, rocksteady, and country material available that year...)

DOQQUN (donut), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 16:04 (seventeen years ago) link

"King Tubby's" is definitely 1975. The album of the same title came out a year later, but the single was '75.

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 16:19 (seventeen years ago) link

haha '75 is a staggeringly good year for reggae DOQQUN.

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 16:19 (seventeen years ago) link

As I'm seeing right now.. jeebus.

DOQQUN (donut), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 16:40 (seventeen years ago) link

Can I uh make a preliminary claim to 1950?

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Thursday, 18 May 2006 00:14 (seventeen years ago) link

Wait... I thought you said you were sick of making MP3 type things.
