I know of at least 5 people trying to get some on Sat morning for the Brixton shows. Noone got through, ticketweb crashed, still they sold out within minutes...seems like the touts got them first :(

thomas, Monday, 9 February 2004 11:10 (twenty years ago) link

I was lucky... almost gave up after trying on Ticketweb but managed miraculously to get 'em when the site briefly sprang back into life at 10am. Just as well considering they were going for £170 a pair on eBay shortly after...

Mog, Monday, 9 February 2004 11:22 (twenty years ago) link

ah, well done! I wasn't quite sure what was happening, so thought I'll try again a bit later...too late!

hope there will be some more dates..

thomas, Monday, 9 February 2004 12:18 (twenty years ago) link

Yup, got four tickets for the first Brixton show from Xfm. Amazingly, I was only on hold for 10 minutes. Nearly dropped the bloody phone, I was so surprised to get through.

hope there will be some more dates...

Word is (according to the Brixton box office) there will probably be two more dates announced in the near future, most likely June 4th and 5th.

Still, 30 quid a ticket! Hope they're not shit.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 9 February 2004 12:24 (twenty years ago) link

fuck the pixies

the surface noise (electricsound), Monday, 9 February 2004 12:35 (twenty years ago) link

no offense

the surface noise (electricsound), Monday, 9 February 2004 12:36 (twenty years ago) link

you should actually be saying death to the Pixies

mentalist (mentalist), Monday, 9 February 2004 13:00 (twenty years ago) link

THIRTY QUID A TICKET?!?!

Christ I'm glad I couldn't give so many hoots whether I see the Pixies or not.

Sarah (starry), Monday, 9 February 2004 13:16 (twenty years ago) link

Are they sprinkled with fairy dust - these 'pixies' tickets?

Jimmy the Saint (Jimmy the Saint), Monday, 9 February 2004 13:20 (twenty years ago) link

I'd be so happy if the Pixies entire skit had turned into the mental Scottish hotel owner from Little Britain. I can just see Black Franny on the old piccolo.

Sarah (starry), Monday, 9 February 2004 13:21 (twenty years ago) link

holy fucking shit the fucking Pixies are doing their fucking warm up tour in fucking Western Canada!!!

My Huckleberry Friend (Horace Mann), Monday, 9 February 2004 15:58 (twenty years ago) link

Go forth and report!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 9 February 2004 16:29 (twenty years ago) link

you better believe I will.
someone should put me on contract to follow them on this tour and, like, pay me some big bucks to say things like, "hmmm, should we go back to calling him Black Francis now?" and "What's the Deal with each member of the band traveling in seperate vehicles?"

My Huckleberry Friend (Horace Mann), Monday, 9 February 2004 16:37 (twenty years ago) link

Get Thin White Rope to reform for that Davis show and you're talking cusp-of-the-nineties goodness.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 9 February 2004 18:56 (twenty years ago) link

So the Winnipeg gig (here) is the first one on the warm-up tour? Crap.

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 9 February 2004 18:59 (twenty years ago) link

damnit where and when do Davis tickets go onsale?

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Monday, 9 February 2004 19:19 (twenty years ago) link

Wow, Vancouver shows days before Seattle Kraftwerk show... HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 9 February 2004 19:24 (twenty years ago) link

Unless the tickets are $800 I guess I'll try to go. Still no sign of how to buy them yet.

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 9 February 2004 19:26 (twenty years ago) link

In an interesting twist to the Ticketweb fiasco, I note this morning that I have been charged three times for my Pixies tickets. Ticketweb are unable to refund me at the moment because of "ongoing technical difficulties". Hurrah!

Mog, Tuesday, 10 February 2004 10:34 (twenty years ago) link

I'm not interested unless Barkmarket support.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 11:09 (twenty years ago) link

So the Winnipeg gig (here) is the first one on the warm-up tour? Crap

What? Crap? That's awesome!! You'll see them first before ANYBODY!!

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 13:17 (twenty years ago) link

What? Crap? That's awesome!! You'll see them first before ANYBODY!!

Because everybody knows the first show together after almost 12 years will be a well-oiled one. On the other hand, the band could remember why they split up, and kill each other half way through the set.

Vic Funk, Tuesday, 10 February 2004 14:22 (twenty years ago) link

There's a place called the Burton Cummings Theatre? Awesome.

dave225 (Dave225), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 14:25 (twenty years ago) link

It's not as awesome as the Leslie Nielsen Splash Pool we have in Regina though.

My Huckleberry Friend (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 14:38 (twenty years ago) link

God damn, I'm moving to Canada!

dave225 (Dave225), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 14:39 (twenty years ago) link

erm... what the... when is the toronto date(s)¿ this site was no help either¡

dyson (dyson), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 15:17 (twenty years ago) link

http://www.frankblack.net/news/#135

there is no Toronto date, hahahahahaha!

My Huckleberry Friend (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 15:18 (twenty years ago) link

no, no, no. that's impossible.
they must've just spelt it wrong.

see there it is on the 14th, they just spelt toronto with a "w" and an "i" and a "nnipeg, MB".
that's all.

dyson (dyson), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 15:30 (twenty years ago) link

face it, bub, the universe shifted. Wpg is now the centre. And how could a city with a Burton Cummings Theatre be anything BUT world-class. They didn't even have to bribe the Pixies a million bucks to show up.

My Huckleberry Friend (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 15:35 (twenty years ago) link

who the hell lives in winnipeg¡¿

dyson (dyson), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 15:41 (twenty years ago) link

I think they got the Olympics.

My Huckleberry Friend (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 15:42 (twenty years ago) link

Ticketweb update: I have now been charged an additional £171 for non-existent Pixies tickets. Plus, having been assured by customer services yesterday that I had managed to book 2 tickets for the Thursday, I received an email from them this morning that said "Your booking was unsuccessful". Cue panicked phone call to customer services (again) who were eventually able to reassure me that yes, I had booked the tickets. So that's good - but so far they have cost me over £300...

Mog, Wednesday, 11 February 2004 10:25 (twenty years ago) link

NB: I have actually been to Winnipeg. In the middle of winter. It was very cold. I didn't go to the Burton Cummings Theatre, sadly, but I did go to a very dodgy rock club.

Mog, Wednesday, 11 February 2004 10:38 (twenty years ago) link

Which one? The Albert? I LIVE IN WINNIPEG, FUCK! I have some concerns about getting tickets for this show as there will likely be a lot of out of town interest. At least they're not gonna gouge on the price (somewhere around $30 CDN was the approximate ticket price suggested in a local newspaper story). The venue only holds a little over 1600 people so tickets will probably sell out in less than half an hour.

Bryan (Bryan), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 16:11 (twenty years ago) link

Vancouver tickets for both Pixies shows there go on sale this saturday (2/21) at 9:30am...

Help?

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 19 February 2004 22:43 (twenty years ago) link

Saskatoon goes on sale Saturday afternoon. I'll be there.

abegrand, Thursday, 19 February 2004 22:51 (twenty years ago) link

...and someone please tell Pixies to SECURE THEIR FUCKING VAN WHEN THEY ARE IN VANCOUVER!

that's all.

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:43 (twenty years ago) link

Pixies shows in Vancouver, both, sold out in under a minute. didn't get tickets. :( :(

donut bitch (donut), Saturday, 21 February 2004 19:38 (twenty years ago) link

For once, it's good to be the rock critic at the daily in Boise, Idaho. Yep.

Mr Deeds (Mr Deeds), Saturday, 21 February 2004 19:53 (twenty years ago) link

Haha! Three cheers to Mr. Deeds, who I like even more now.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 21 February 2004 20:02 (twenty years ago) link

Pixies shows in Vancouver, both, sold out in under a minute. didn't get tickets. :( :(

Wow. Calgary sold out in several hours, Edmonton took less than an hour. Still some available in Saskatoon (got mine). Sometimes it pays off to live in a podunk city!

abegrand, Saturday, 21 February 2004 21:45 (twenty years ago) link

I'd like to offer some support for that theory, but Boise sold out in 30 minutes, I believe

Mr Deeds (Mr Deeds), Saturday, 21 February 2004 21:48 (twenty years ago) link

Managed to get tickets for the Winnipeg show but only because of a connection. The show was sold out in 7 minutes probably thanks to people like my connection but I guess that's the way it goes. I'm not rereading the thread - has anyone heard who's opening?

Bryan (Bryan), Sunday, 22 February 2004 16:54 (twenty years ago) link

bryan, i hope you realize what a lucky s.o.b. you are.

dyson (dyson), Sunday, 22 February 2004 19:58 (twenty years ago) link

Yup. Kinda feel like a bastard for getting the tickets this way but it seems there wasn't another option.

Bryan (Bryan), Sunday, 22 February 2004 20:00 (twenty years ago) link

well, it's obviously easier for me to say this now, since I tried to get tickets and failed.. but maybe this is a "warm up" tour because quite possibly the shows might not be, um, great? (oh, i'm just trying to delude myself now.. I sob all over the s.o.b.'s)

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 23 February 2004 01:30 (twenty years ago) link

Come on out to Saskatoon. Still tickets left, incredibly.

abegrand, Monday, 23 February 2004 02:22 (twenty years ago) link

pixies tickets on ebay

rat bastard scalpers!

william (william), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 04:49 (twenty years ago) link

Demand has been so high, that capacity at the Saskatoon venue has been doubled to 3200, the biggest of the warm-up tour.

abegrand, Tuesday, 24 February 2004 09:59 (twenty years ago) link

nobody knows if there are any tickets left in Regina, because the local media largely keeps their heads up their asses (where the really good stories are!).

My Huckleberry Friend (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 14:44 (twenty years ago) link

I managed to get six tickets for the show in Davis California this morning. Unfortunately a twinge of conscience led me to offering them to my bandmates who wanted them, though I fully planned on being a bastard rat scalper (hey I've got credit card bills to pay). They're already on Ebay for SOOO MUCH MONEY I'm going to have a hard time choking down my greedy instincts.

Frank Black is playing a "solo" show in San Francisco next week. Hmm. Wonder what that's about?

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 00:32 (twenty years ago) link

They're on sale and available for Brixton Academy now at http://www.ticketweb.co.uk

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 5 March 2004 12:46 (twenty years ago) link

And thanks to the message above, I've just (somewhat unbelievably) managed to buy 4. For £25 each.

I love this board. :-)

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Friday, 5 March 2004 13:31 (twenty years ago) link

I feel all good now - it will cancel out any guilt I feel if I end up not going and selling them on eBay.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 5 March 2004 13:34 (twenty years ago) link

The first friend I offered one to has assuaged any guilt I might feel if one of the four ends up on eBay as well. :-)

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Friday, 5 March 2004 13:42 (twenty years ago) link

Having seen the prices on eBay I think I owe someone a very large drink for having the foresight to get me a ticket for Brixton.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Tuesday, 9 March 2004 12:29 (twenty years ago) link

two months pass...
so is anyone else going tonight? FancyAPixies?

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 14:38 (nineteen years ago) link

I'll be seeing them at Lollapalooza in NYC. Tickets are still available for that, as far as I know.

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 14:59 (nineteen years ago) link

back in april i grabbed tickets for their november toronto show¡ it sold out effing fast too.

dyson (dyson), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 15:43 (nineteen years ago) link

I have mine for Montreal in November. They sold out too, but they've added another date.

Seb (Seb), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 22:49 (nineteen years ago) link

Yeah, I've got tickets to that first T.O. show.

BanjoMania (Brilhante), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 22:49 (nineteen years ago) link

last night the Pixies played 'Hey' and i nearly shat my pants.

g-kit (g-kit), Thursday, 3 June 2004 14:17 (nineteen years ago) link

i'll be at that one too, mr.banjo.

dyson (dyson), Thursday, 3 June 2004 14:35 (nineteen years ago) link

Last night's gig was fucking amazing. Three encores! 'La La Love You'! 'Hey'! 'U-Mass'! 'Crackity Jones'! And all the obvious ones too...

I had prepared myself for them being a bit shit. But they were on fire - really like they'd never been away. And the atmosphere was fantastic. Wish I'd got tickets for all the nights now...

Mog, Friday, 4 June 2004 08:35 (nineteen years ago) link

Three encores!

Does anybody know what happened on Wednesday? A roadie came out after the encore and fiddled with Frank's kit, then another came out, made a throat-cutting 'quit' motion, then cleared Kim's stuff away. Kim also appeared at the back of the stage a bit later but was led away.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Friday, 4 June 2004 08:42 (nineteen years ago) link

dunno, but there were a lot of disgruntled people wandering about when they didn't come back. they only played just over an hour, which is a but rub for 30 quid - but it's not about the money etc. was still a pretty fine show, very glad i finally got to see them 12 years after i originally planned to do so!

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 4 June 2004 15:02 (nineteen years ago) link

I was going to buy another of the DISCLIVE sets -- what's the scoop on the show on Friday?

christoff (christoff), Monday, 7 June 2004 13:09 (nineteen years ago) link

C'mon Brits -- there's only 19 copies of the June 3rd show left.

christoff (christoff), Monday, 7 June 2004 14:52 (nineteen years ago) link

Thursday was great, especially for the encores going on after the lights went up. Finishing on 'Into The White'! Only bad thing was their not playing 'The Holiday Song' and my being up-sodding-stairs. Friend was going to get her flatmate's group to go to the bar with all their stubs so we could sneak in, but found out that flatmate had had all six of his tickets nicked from his back pocket so they all missed the gig entirely. One of them he'd sold on ebay to someone who he had to meet beforehand and tell the bad news. Ouch.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 7 June 2004 21:29 (nineteen years ago) link

one year passes...
Weirdly, they're playing a show at Alexandra Palace on August 31st and it appears to be in no danger of selling out.

Probably because they're playing Reading and Leeds the weekend before and it's £31 per ticket for a Wednesday night show...

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Saturday, 30 July 2005 08:48 (eighteen years ago) link

It's sold out now, though.

Already fucking touts are selling them on ebay with a "buy it now" price of £57 per ticket...

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Saturday, 30 July 2005 16:50 (eighteen years ago) link

i'm going to be seeing them in paris just before reading/leeds weekend.

Richard Brown (aerosolique), Saturday, 30 July 2005 16:53 (eighteen years ago) link

one month passes...
i have a spare for tonight's show, if anyone's interested (face value or a little below).

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 09:38 (eighteen years ago) link

I wasn't going to go because of the outrageous ticket price, but one of my friends is kindly giving me his fiancee's ticket as a birthday present (she wasn't bothered about going anyway, not really a fan).

Unfortunately I'm going to tomorrow night's show, or I might have been interested in your spare ticket for my wife. Oh well.

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 11:10 (eighteen years ago) link

Fucking AMAZING.

Best bits: both versions of 'Wave of Mutilation' and that guitar lead solo...

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Thursday, 1 September 2005 02:18 (eighteen years ago) link

i'm going tonight - is there a support group?

(I mean is there a lesser-known band playing before the Pixies, not is there an organisation to help me through the painful experience)

Teh HoBB (the pirate king), Thursday, 1 September 2005 07:31 (eighteen years ago) link

the futureheads.

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 1 September 2005 08:05 (eighteen years ago) link

Futureheads? Cool. They're one of the only nu-indie bands I can stand.

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Thursday, 1 September 2005 10:43 (eighteen years ago) link

Great. I pushed my way right to the front and jumped around like I was half my age.
