Defend the Indefensible: Josh Groban

All I know about him is two things:

- his music makes me want to never hear again

- a psychotic goth girl I once ran into claimed to be his girlfriend (and also claimed to have had sex with 3 of the 4 actors who played the hobbits in the Lord of the Rings trilogy...notably absent was Sean Astin, notably present was the fact that said girl lived 60 miles north of L.A. in a trailer and had a few "habits")

I have yet to meet someone who would defend him.

'sex with 3 of the 4 actors who played the hobbits in the Lord of the Rings trilogy..'

Was this one of those 'bonding excercises we keep hearing about?

pete s, Tuesday, 3 February 2004 00:41 (seventeen years ago) link

she DID claim that she was never with "just one"

Gear! (Gear!), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 00:42 (seventeen years ago) link

The fact that Sean Astin is happily married...proves nothing except that she did her research.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 00:50 (seventeen years ago) link

You didn't specify if one is to defend the man or the music.

So I think he seems like a nice guy.

I could be wrong though. Yeah. Could be.

Maybe he indulges in off-campus orgies with his demograph (namely 40 and 50 something MILFS), does way too many drugs, hates Oprah, and injects subliminal neo-nazi context into the radio-friendly singles only - of course.

JesusMaryChain, Tuesday, 3 February 2004 00:52 (seventeen years ago) link

I guess the 50 somethings need some current music to love too. That's where Josh Groban comes in. (and 50 somethings don't use Kazaa, WinMX nor Soulseek, making Groban a potential goldmine for the record biz)

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 01:09 (seventeen years ago) link

This sounds like the best sitcom pitch I have ever heard: - "A psychotic goth girl comes of age in a trailer park 60 miles North of L.A., dealing with the trials and tribulations of 'habits' and hobbit-fucking."

Ben Boyer (Ben Boyer), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 01:11 (seventeen years ago) link

Every time I see her, my aunt tells me I look like Josh Groban (who she loves). Ergo, he's HOTT!!

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 01:57 (seventeen years ago) link

Ned being happily married has nothing do with whether or not you engage in hobbit orgies.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 02:00 (seventeen years ago) link

That's quite true, whether or not I'm married SHOULD have nothing to do with your hobbit orgies, ILX.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 02:14 (seventeen years ago) link

i must meet this goth girl!!

Pablo Cruise (chaki), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 02:29 (seventeen years ago) link

Chaki don't use her just to get to the hobbits.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 02:35 (seventeen years ago) link

Can I PLEASE be in a hobbit orgy??

Sean (Sean), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 02:38 (seventeen years ago) link

Our birthday wish should be for Sean to get a hobbit orgy of his very own!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 02:52 (seventeen years ago) link

It's just like the ending (or one of the endings) of ROTK, where they're all bouncing on the bed, except remove Sean and insert goth girl. She wasn't at all attractive btw.

Gear! (Gear!), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 03:12 (seventeen years ago) link

Please remove goth girl and reinsert me!

Sean (Sean), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 03:39 (seventeen years ago) link

What the fucking fuck is wrong with Josh Groban?

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 03:56 (seventeen years ago) link

What isn't?

Gear! (Gear!), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 04:08 (seventeen years ago) link

I have no idea who Josh Groban is, but I want to hate him just cuz Snrub does.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 04:13 (seventeen years ago) link

I am considering buying a Josh Groban CD for my mother this Christmas. This is on the strength of his Never Mind The Buzzcocks performance a couple of weeks ago.

I once elbowed him out of the way to get to a water fountain, that was pretty classic.

He comes across as pretty likeable on Buzzcocks.

My boyfriend is an enthusiastic fan.

Sigh.

My mom likes him a lot, so he's cool by me.

If Timi Yuro would be still alive, most other singers could shut up, Tuesday, 23 December 2008 05:17 (twelve years ago) link

He is maybe the worst ever.

2 5 (Z S), Tuesday, 23 December 2008 05:20 (twelve years ago) link

his voice is so ugly, i started singing in my head to drown it out :/

my parents were all "he has a voice, he has a voice." PLEASE just cuz you can sing loud and operalike doesn't mean you have a voice.

eek

Surmounter, Tuesday, 23 December 2008 07:38 (twelve years ago) link

He's pretty good on drums:

ichard Thompson (Hurting 2), Tuesday, 23 December 2008 07:44 (twelve years ago) link

he seems like a charming dude, and he's got a nice voice. so his music isn't all that great, it's not like he's celine dion or anything.

Um, was nice on "Never mind the buzzcocks" without being corny/lost.

I daresay his actual taste in music is nothing like what he actually produces.

Still, though, has that 'very rich' niceness (i.e. from birth)

Mark G, Tuesday, 23 December 2008 08:18 (twelve years ago) link

ok, just watched that youtube, and i went from indifferent to "will defend"
