INXS 'need you tonight' - hmmmm .......

Jay Kid (Jay K), Sunday, 4 January 2004 14:52 (twenty years ago) link

Midnight Oil - search Power And The Passion, Dreamworld, One Country, Read About It, Forgotten Years, The Dead Heart. Cemetery In My Mind is sort of neat. Destroy White Skin Black Heart, Beds Are Burning and that seasick-inducing early one with Andrew James (tho he's cool). Most of the Kick-era INXS ones are good. I enjoy the one for Mediate where they're all holding up/throwing away their rhyming-lyric signs and trying hard to look ultra-cool, except for Andrew Farriss who just stands there stiffly while awkwardly hucking his signs around.

I'm almost afraid to ask, but do Jet have any videos and what're they like?

nate detritus (natedetritus), Sunday, 4 January 2004 23:32 (twenty years ago) link

The video for "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" has lots of paint-splashy looking things, it's in arty b&w and has several go-go dancers or something like them.

*snort*

Did you expect anything more? :)

Schwingung (Damian), Sunday, 4 January 2004 23:48 (twenty years ago) link

any kylie minogue (best viewed on mute).
(except for possibly love at first sight)

re: Kyles - There's a Kylie video I like (inversely proportional to how much I hate the song) which features multiple Kylies emerging one by one out of a doorway, walking down a street, crossing the road a few times and then by some trickery of film/PC returning to where they started whereupon another Kylie emerges. Hard to describe. Sounds daft, but I quite like the way it's done.

The guys in the Kraftwerk "Man Machine" outfits dancing behind her in the clip where she's poncing around in the bedsheet look cool... the song is freakin' unbearable though.

"Come Into My World"! That video's my favorite video of all the ones that have been released in the past three years. It helps matters that I already really liked the song the video was supposed to be for.

*jaw drops*

Alex, this is the second time I've agreed with you on a video. The first time is obv the "All That I Wanted" video... but wow, "Talking To A Stranger" too? Oh. My. Wow. (I loved the song too.)

Tenacious Dee (Dee the Lurker), Monday, 5 January 2004 07:11 (twenty years ago) link

search: acdc - its a long way to the top
kylie minogue - slow (especially the perfect dive at the very beginning)
the stems - at first sight (just for being so 80s melbourne cool)
tina arena - i need your body

there are probably more good acdc ones but i cant remember them

destroy: guy sebastien's video (and the song while you're at it plz), and shannon's video. any of those ponderous something for kate or george videos. any alex lloyd sulky face. the powderfinger video with the fake anime. the one that's on channel v a lot now with a dude dressed up as a werewolf + that girl from home & away

i think that bumblebeez one would be for "ride the pony", otherwise i would suggest:
- the UK version of frontier psychiatrist
- 1981 by cut copy
- need your lovin by pnau
- and i remember seeing a video on recovery when i was quite young by a band called frontline, some kinda chase, that was really cool

search the Smudge video set at the Paramatta raceway.

OCP (OCP), Monday, 5 January 2004 10:53 (twenty years ago) link

oh wait, was the frontline thing on rollerblades??

minna (minna), Monday, 5 January 2004 10:54 (twenty years ago) link

p.s. I really like that Jet video.

"oh wait, was the frontline thing on rollerblades??"

yeah! yeah! that's the one. i remember the song was kinda average, but the clip was great.

glenny g2003 (glenny g2003), Tuesday, 6 January 2004 09:46 (twenty years ago) link

now i remember it was frontside not frontline.... i really liked the song at the time! it ws full of michael jackson punctuation... it wd probably sound pretty dated now tho

Especially for you by Jason and Kylie was the true nadar of australian video making, the summit from which we all descend, and are naturally indebted to. Seeing Ben Lee running semi naked through NYC in CIgarettes Can Kill You gave me a semi woody.

Queen G Molly Meldrum never sat on my face, Tuesday, 6 January 2004 11:33 (twenty years ago) link

yeah, that clip was pretty good! Keep Chanting.

OCP (OCP), Tuesday, 6 January 2004 12:21 (twenty years ago) link

Always loved "Death Defying" by the Hoodoo Gurus, as well.
