There aint no success like failure
and failure aint no success at all.

Everyone here thinks the music biz is rubbish.

What do you think?

I was the one that DESTROYED the music biz with my ghastly prole buying habits, if I'd put aside all that money spent over the last ten years I could have bought two, maybe three of her CDs instead :(

Thought I'd pass this message on to you all ....

I have this new song that I am working on
I just found a way to buy a piano. but I am going to have to work and My
music is very complex. most of songs do not song alike ..

I work hard on making my songs unusual.

right now, I am working on finding a isolation booth aka sound booth, and
working on paying payments and playing..

on a very high level.

the song is called, your days are gone....

the new one..anyway..

Life is difficult.. i am playing the guitar and writing some new things
that don't sound like my old stuff.

I received some nice letters and some not so nice letters..thx .

and I don't have time to monitor this bb.

if you pose as me, I guess you could do that all over the net..but who
cares..I have more things to think about..take care...love and
peace,,,merry christmas and happy holidays.

Continual criticism produces rheumatism, as critical, inharmonious...

Continual criticism produces rheumatism, as critical, inharmonious thoughts cause unnatural deposits in the blood, which settle in the joints. False growths are caused by jealousy, hatred unforgiveness, fear, etc. Every disease is caused by a mind not at ease.
I said once, in my class, "There is no use asking anyone 'What's the matter with you?' we might just as well say, 'Who's the matter with you?' "Unforgiveness is the most prolific cause of disease. It will harden arteries or liver, and affect the eyesight. In its train are endless ills.

I called on a woman, one day, who said she was ill from having eaten a poisoned oyster. I replied, "Oh, no, the oyster was harmless, you poisoned the oyster. What's the matter with you?" She answered, "Oh about nineteen people." She had quarreled with nineteen people and had become so inharmonious that she attracted the wrong oyster.

Marissa's reign of terror was the most bewildering period I can remember on ILX. I think it's the closest I've ever come(and hopefully ever will) to experiencing what it's actually be inside the head of someone with multiple personalities. How many threads were taken up with her arguing with herself in various different guises? Probably not as many as it seemed then, but I'm certain I remember trawling through page after page thinking, "Is anyone here actually not Marissa pretending to be someone else?"

Have to admit though, the new material sounds very competently produced compared to her old stuff.

Nope, sorry, but I am a fan. Virgo Rouge has a large fan base. She was once on the cover of a large alternative newspaper in numbers of cities in the US. Major cities. I am a very good friend of this woman. She is a great melodic writer. SHe writes one good song after another. Strong melodies. It is not common to have people who write music like this. This woman is going to be famous.

Hello I am Marissa. I am an independent musician. I have a fairly large following of people who take my music for free, don’t donate to me, and don’t support me. People are looking for freebies on the net. If you are looking for free music and you don’t want to donate or to help fund the arts…you may love my channel. I m giving free music to an ungrateful public. My music is quality. Since we have an ungrateful society, I have to approve comments. Thank you.

She did an a capella version of The Hollies' "Bus Stop" last time I looked in, that was quite touching while being very stylisically her.

Mark G, Saturday, 31 December 2016 19:21 (four years ago) link

I'm not up to date on her online music offerings but this news kind of breaks my heart. Sure, reality is hard for the entreprenurial musician - especially on NYC rent. But MM the personality is who I feel for: a strong, prickily rose bush. I hope one day she can find a caretaker to share mutual love, inspiration and financial security to allow creative work to happen. Isn't that the dream for every artist though? Damn if I didn't have to support myself I could follow my dreams etc.

Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Friday, 8 October 2021 15:25 (two weeks ago) link

I sorta think that MM was prescient. She diagnosed the disease correctly, but didn't prescribe a practical cure. In fairness to her, no one else has either.

Roughly (going by faulty memory), the economics of creativity are out of whack. We treasure the arts. We derive meaning from them and structure our lives by them. And yet we want to get most art for free, or close to it. If artists charged prices commensurate with how much joy we get from their work, we would have room for little else in our household budgets.

There are lots of practical problems with how to bring that thesis forth into the world. And Marissa herself is a flawed messenger for this gospel.
