Bands, record shops, venues, radio in Melbourne/Sydney?

the rob roy, first floor, ding dong, the empress, the town hall hotel, duke of windsor, bar open, corner hotel (anyone want to add anything to this list?)

radio = 3RRR (102.7) and 3PBS (106.7)

record shops = missing link in bourke st, city. that's the only one i can really recommend.

record shops (theres a thread already i think..?): red eye (leftfield - rock, electronica etc etc), resist (punk), birdland (jazz), mojo (roots), um...what're you looking for?

Melbourne's better for the music you like. Actually, Melbourne's better for everything except the weather and the people.

also you could tune into *cough* alchemy on sbs radio.

To be honest what I'd probably buy is good local music that might not be available here and likewise for shows unless it's something great that I missed on tour here.

its a local institution though, been going for decades.

Venue-wise, if you want some nice places just to hang and drink: the Lounge, Revolver (in chapel st), Spleen, and Sahara Cafe are all good.

Also the Espy hotel for sheer grand view out the bay windows stylee.

Maybe your pal would like the latest "sounds eclectic" cd...it has lots of cute cartoon characters on the cover. I could get Nic to put on some lipstick and kiss it for him/her

Revive! I'm going to be in Sydney for the first week of December. Where are the record shops? I haven't been to Australia since 1990...

a lot of the record stores are around Newton or Enmore or Erskineville.

though there are also some in Darlinghurst and the city?

Arrgh sorry I missed everyone. Unavoidable, but as it looks now - I'll probably be back down for a longer stay sometime next year.
