There should be a book about him. Some of the myths and anecdotes around him are like those surrounding old blues men like Robert Johnson or something.

I have been thinking the same thing, but trying to dig up anecdotes and truths and details about Daniel Dumile kind of seems antithetical to what DOOM was about

The statement was generally quite straight forward. A doom death I would have expected to be communicated more cryptically.

I assumed the family kept it secret for privacy?

Also I just realized, like, yesterday that "Doom" was probably a shortened version of "Dumile"

I keep hoping that like the other Doom he allowed one of his robot doubles to die in his place.

im sure this has been discussed already, its just so odd in 2020 to not find out about the death of a person in the entertainment world the moment it happens

i think it's kind of cool / admirable that it was not known for so long tbh

Also, I would 100% percent be on board with DOOM having faked his own death because A) It means DOOM is alive and B) It would piss everyone off, ergo being an all-time great supervillain move

Before the pandemic really threw my whole job in to a mess, I was trying to get a big rap poll on the go and had to renege it. I would love to help anyone who wanted to run a DOOM/KMD poll though

i thought someone volunteered to do it on the "there should be an ILM poll" thread?

I suggested it there but was more intending to throw it out there, I’m not able to run it.

i could do it. Not gonna let it not happen like. But let's give it a month or two. In the meantime I'll try and sort out what should be eligible as i think this would be thornier than most of these polls (eg, Pitchfork's list of 10 tracks includes a bootleg remix off of "Sadevillain" that features a verse better/clearer than its official release). Is that kind of thing the poll volunteer's call? I've followed a few of these things but only taken part once.

nah it's a bootleg. And although it turns out Doom was sorta bootlegging himself with those "Missing Notebook" tracks that made it out, I would want to include those.

That nyt podcast wasnt bad. Dante Ross was the best. Bobbito talked too much about fondle em. Caramanica kept talking about dooms textures, which is right, but it's also about the weird rhythms, the off, rza ish sense of timing. Like a much looser prince Paul.
