Zuzu's Petals Remembered

I found Zuzu's "When No One's Looking" at Sam the record man for 49 cents. She's Paul Westerberg's wife, you know. Anyone else love this much-unknown album (not even a review on AMG)?

Never heard of that Westerberg connection before! I think I have the album around somewhere but god knows when I heard it last...

Laurie Lindeen, the main singer, is PW's wife...

I used to have a major crush on their drummer.....who is Steve Wynn's girlfriend (or is she his wife?)

Laurie Lindeen made a solo ep a couple of years ago, with Westerberg as an uncredited player along with members of Semisonic. The name of that drummer, who inspired many crushes, is Linda Pitman. Five years ago or so, Lindeen was working on a novel, which I gather remains unfinished or at least unpublished.

I think I've still got the albums knocking around if anyone wants 'em for free...thought not.
Zuzu's drummer = hot.

Oh gosh darn it. I had such a thing for "White Trash Love" way back when. I think I was about 16 when that album was released. I just played myself a wee sound sample of it...how did I forget about this album?? Oh yeah, I had all my music stolen 6 years ago and never was quite able to replace everything.

Thanks for reminding me!!!

Laurie Lindeen, Zuzu's singer, passed away this week at 62, not an age for that.

Here's a great essay she wrote for NYT: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/08/25/opinion/sunday/johnny-goes-to-college.html

Zuzu's first record, When No One's Looking, was one of my favourite records of the 90s, and somewhat a refuge for me as a teenager, who wanted to love grunge like my friends but never really glommed to the glum masculinity or the abrasiveness. It's a great debut to a career that went in other directions.
