one month passes...
Rubén González, Buena Vista piano player, died at home in Havana on
December 8th 2003, aged 84. R.I.P.

I liked the music. Yes, this revival in America was marketed to 50 plus National Public Radio listeners only, and yea it's wrong that younger Cuban musicians aren't getting coverage as well, but well, you can't have everything.

Oh, man! I didn't know he died! Shit! Well, I guess he was 84 years old. RIP Ruben.

This is a great record:

Buena Vista I guess. Ibrahim Ferrer is great. Shit, he's a P.I.M.P.

sixteen years pass...

Saw an enjoyable doc on PBS about Eliades Ochoa, From Cuba to the World. Covers his days in dive bars where sex workers threw in coins to get him to keep playing to his Buena Vista work, a video that made him bigger in Cuba, and a collaborative effort with Malians. A bit is confusing if you don’t know his history but still worth checking out
