Going to do some excruciatingly long driving and I'm in a deperate need of some good "road" albums. So far I only got The Charm of the Highway Strip by Magnetic Fields and a couple of East River Pipe albums...and I've been told that United States Live boxset by Laurie Anderson is a must. What else do I need?

They've just reissued it as well, which is nice.

Joni Mitchell's 'Hejira' is pretty much THE autumn road album.

a big second vote for "only life." there are also some get individual tracks you could put on a mix cd for the trip, like "silver" by echo and the bunnymen and zep's "ramble on."

thirteen years pass...

Revive! I know it's still technically summer but ...
I second the Feelies — any Feelies.
Also I would add that any Mark Mulcahy music — Miracle Legion and Polaris, especially — seems to provide a perfect soundtrack for the fall.
