If he can't get enough cash for a plane ticket, Plan B is to drive to Dave Mustaine's house instead.

Kid looks like a doughball (like me), doubt he'd do too well against a Viking fetishist who probably has a cache of weapons.
I'd love it if Varg met him at the door with a cup of tea, though.

Some of them have been interesting and surprising. Varg saying that he wasn't a metalhead and rarely liked a whole album by a metal band. That he thought there was nothing special about the early scene, that he doesn't mind clone bands at all and that he thinks it's likely there's a Burzum clone that surpassed the original.
― Robert Adam Gilmour, Wednesday, 5 October 2016 22:07 (seven years ago) link
Varg's bedtime stories are so comfy.
The house/techno influence in Burzum got very, very obvious as early as "Hvis..."
― punksishippies, Wednesday, 5 October 2016 22:10 (seven years ago) link
I still suspect he's in the closet about formerly liking Venom though
― punksishippies, Wednesday, 5 October 2016 22:14 (seven years ago) link
I find these clips almost impossible to watch - even though it adds some interesting backgrounds to all the history, he's such a condescending blowhard.
But yeah the electronic influence was always obvious, there's already two ambient pieces on the debut, and even the guitar-based songs had a different mood and were structured quite unlike most preceding death/thrash metal. Loads of people in the Norwegian metal scene were into electronic music, I always liked the story of how Euronymous stalked Conrad Schnitzler (of Tangerine Dream) and got him to do an intro for their demo back in 1987.
― Siegbran, Thursday, 6 October 2016 08:36 (seven years ago) link
Condescending blowhard that keeps wink-winking to his Nazi pals, yeah. Unwatchable bullshit, and I think he's only doing it because Fenriz did it better first. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iBSOiMA6zlE

― imago, Thursday, 6 October 2016 09:02 (seven years ago) link
I don't think he's in competition with Fenriz. It's a different sort of history he's giving. Are there many positive accounts of Euronymous? Was he really into snuff films?

Has he ever said anything about exterminating any race? As far as I know he just wants to avoid being demographically & culturally replaced (which is a desire that's expected and goes without questioning from pretty much everyone except whites).

these are all Varg's own words from his website.
if it hadn't been for "anti-racists" spreading their lies in Norway and elsewhere in the European world we would not have suffered from all the problems we face today because of racism. Adoptive parents are not "evil" or want to hurt their adopted children, but even the most selfish of them would think twice about adopting children from another race if they understood the laws of nature and the consequences of them. They don't understand this because they have been mislead by the massive lie-propaganda (regarding the "multicultural" society's imaginary virtues) that we are all exposed to on a daily basis in schools, in the media, in adverts and everywhere else too.
I have to stress too that Islam and Muslims are not the main threat to us. They are just a means used by Jews (who let them into Europe in the first place) to mongrelize us and finish us off as a race, and not least to make us fight for the Jews in their criminal wars. Our true enemy is the Jews! Never forget that!
If you want to hang someone or shoot them in the back of the head, for betraying their own race or for attacking out nations with coward and dishonest means, I understand you very well, but please wait until after we have won, when you can do this lawfully. There is enough rope for all of them, and bullets too, so just be patient. They will hang soon enough anyhow. And their brainwashed offspring too. And their f***ing dogs.
there's much more in this vein there. you'd have to be pretty stupid to spin this as "oh, he just wants his own race not to be 'demographically and culturally replaced'"

joan crawford otm. however, i'd add that wanting to "avoid being demographically & culturally replaced" as a white person is a poisonous attitude in itself. i'm afraid this kind of sentiment will creep into mainstream discourse in america now that the so called "alt right" has a larger platform. it needs to be stamped out whenever it rears its head.

imo the fear of being "demographically & culturally replaced" as an _american_ is some crazy shit because things keep changing
there was some article from a hundred years ago where people were going on about these bizarre ethnic foods, and how they're such a weird fringe thing. it was about hot dogs.

I don't think he has much contact with the metal scene, he lives far away in rural France, self-releases everything and doesn't tour.
I mean musically his influence on modern metal is immense but nobody seems to like him much as a person.
