London music

OK so I may seem like a child with wide open eyes, but this is the first time i had chance to go abroad, and London is fascinating for seeing new music. For example, a freinds brother took me to gay disco, it was very friendly, boys kissing my hand and calling me lilichka.I tried not to stare. But oh the music was shoe shop music with hysteric vocal, oh I expected maybe Pet Shop Boys or techno, but this was sad, howling music. But I did enjoy going to Garage and seeing Ballboy, also Trembling Blue Stars. And I went to Proms (very cheap) and I'm looking forward to Notting Hill Carnival oh I can't imagine how it will fill these tiny streets. So, a good variety. But I'd like to go to club with maybe sixties music. I'd like to hear peoples impressions if they visited London, from an outsider view, and what is best club to visit.

Currently in London myself (and will be attending the Proms on Monday) -- I would recommend Strange Fruit, which while I haven't attended it is staffed by the glorious and good Kate and Paul, regular board denizens. Had I their website, I would share it...

As the other representative of the SF collective on the board, I can do nothing but heartily recommend the off-kilter mess of indie, post- rock and eclectica to be found here.

When I went to London last year around the same time, the Undersolo (beside the Good Mixer sorta in Camden) was pretty good for 60s music, etc. It's private now but I'm sure there is still a way to get tickets.
