Record stores in Halifax

Hey folks.

I'm in Nova Scotia on a family vacation, and they're finally giving me tomorrow to scour the local shops. Does anyone have any suggestions? I plan to visit Taz Records, Sam The Record Man and Revolution records, as they're the ones that sounded most promising from the phone book ads.

Suggestions for used bookstores and comic book stores are also welcome!

Sam's is a retail chain but its good. Just down the street (towards the bridges) is CD Plus or something to that effect which can be just awsome, its where Dal and the student newspapers tend to dump their excess cds for money. And above that store is No Distribution offices.

I miss Halifax :(

Just walk down Spring Garden from the commons and hang a left on Barrington and pop into stores as you see fit.

If your interested in some local bands ask at the Sam's or CD Plus for help, the staff at Sams in particular hires alot of the local people, and as always just ignore the HMV on Spring Garden.

If you want some punk rock from the area: Dean Malenkos, McFaddens and Burnt Black come to mind. A little less punk and a little more math rawk is North of America.
In terms of rap, Buck 65 is the best. Other ends and ends include Thrush Hermit (Clayton Park is their far and away best but Smart Bomb ep aint bad for the time and place), Sloan, Sloan and more Sloan, Jale, a healthy love for Julie Doiron (her Julie Doiron & The Wooden Stars won best alternative album at the Junos, aka Canadian Grammys), there may be an album by Jon Epworth who is known to do some good work at a decent level Mike O'Neil is far more known for his work though. The Peter Parkers may have their album for sale in Halifax in which case if you like anything shoegaze/dreampopy you are urged to pick that up, also Heimlich are amazing in a youthful Sonic Youf loving way.
Since your in Canada you can find Rheostatic albums probably. Hurrah.
Just ask, people are pretty friendly out there.

PS: Don't go up Citadell Hill at night, or if you do, don't tell anyone local.

Also try Pita Boys on Barrington, best pitas in the city.

On Barrington you'll find (aside from Sam's) the excellent CD Plus, the recently opened Reandom Play across the street, and No Records inside the Khyber (which is the most uber-indie record store of the lot).

CD Plus is not half bad.
Well it may not be good, its still miles ahead of Quebec City.
