Article Response: Tim's Avalanches Review

Read it , it's great. As is the album, which gets better with every listen. (Tangent: I'm perturbed that half of the records in my top ten of 2000 have yet to be released in the US, even though they're all poppy shit that everyone should own, i.e. Daphne & Celeste, Boredoms, Hellacopters, etc. Yay Napster.)

Ohmigod! I have to have it. Now! Is it out in the UK yet?

I logged on this morning and thought, oh, that's good, I did for once remember to do an article response thread. Deluded me. Thanks Otis, and thanks Tim for writing it - and yes, I now also have to hear it. (You can get it off Amazon, Richard, as an import, not too expensive either.)

I can't remember the last time I was so excited by a review on FT. The quality in Tim's review - of capturing excitement and euphoria while retaining rationality and descriptiveness - reminds me of Simon Reynolds in 1986; it has that same combination of wide-eyed wonder and childlike losing-of-self, with a formidable intelligence and range of reference points.

I have to hear this record.

Man, I just have to hear this one. It's as if someone made a record just to please me...Talk Talk, Screamadelica, The Orb, etc. etc. Back to the old only-samples-please ethic of '87-'88. Although there's a suspicion that if this record doesn't quite match up to the review it will just be mediocre Coldcut/DJ Food (then again if it's something like Food's "Bay City Roller" than I'll be very, very happy). Maybe I'll just go to my local record-shops, start harrasssing them with questions about the new Avanlanches cd, "it'stheshityouknow". The...whoooo?!?
