the new album is called US Magazine isn't it.

tylerw, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 18:37 (twelve years ago) link

California 37 -- a perfect example of making no goddamn sense at all.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 18:39 (twelve years ago) link

it's a tribute to samantha 7

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 18:47 (twelve years ago) link

i had a near-miss of almost interviewing Train a couple years back, was actually kind of disappointed that i didn't get to talk to this guy about his lyrics

some dude, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 18:50 (twelve years ago) link

i saw a thing on vh1 once about "drops of jupiter" where he declared with some pride that the label wanted him to take all the goofy shit about tai bo and soy lattes out of the lyrics but he stood his ground

some dude, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 18:51 (twelve years ago) link

you go, girl

eyes of dora maar (get bent), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 18:52 (twelve years ago) link

he should go out with madonna, she likes soy lattes with double shottays

eyes of dora maar (get bent), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 18:52 (twelve years ago) link

How do I shottay latte

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 18:56 (twelve years ago) link

I recently discovered one of their albums has a cover of Sugar's "If I Can't Change Your Mind"

da croupier, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 19:25 (twelve years ago) link

i refuse to mock a band for using too many concrete details, though. we've got too many erring in the other direction.

da croupier, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 19:27 (twelve years ago) link

otm

some dude, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 19:28 (twelve years ago) link

"Life is good but love is better/Even Bieber ain't forever"

I'd love this in a John Prine song

da croupier, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 19:30 (twelve years ago) link

TRAIN sounds like the name of some shitty upper crust gym for the yuppified hipster set

Poliopolice, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 19:32 (twelve years ago) link

I am dying over these lyrics.

Respectfully, Tyrese Gibson (Nicole), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 19:42 (twelve years ago) link

And yet, in their litany of historic events and achievements, the dude lists his OWN BAND.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 19:47 (twelve years ago) link

Even just looking at those assholes:

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 20:17 (twelve years ago) link

They look like dads who would get into fights at little league games.

Respectfully, Tyrese Gibson (Nicole), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 20:44 (twelve years ago) link

Oddly, Train came up in conversation a few days ago when someone asked me what the worst show out of hundreds and I've ever seen was. They were honestly the first thing that came to mind.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 20:46 (twelve years ago) link

Like, they weren't the most horrible band ever. They just were. Like, they existed. They were there. And they did not sweat a drop.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 20:47 (twelve years ago) link

i saw them as an opening act once in the 90s and they played "Ramble On" like they'd been a pro cover band for decades. i refuse to believe that craggy-faced Pat Monahan was under 30 at the time, as his official age contends.

some dude, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 20:48 (twelve years ago) link

That photo suggests an alternate version of Office Space where the three guys get "rock star" makeovers and start a band.

da croupier, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 20:52 (twelve years ago) link

what the fucking fuck re: this terribad song

God, Music and Romeo and Juliet (DJP), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 20:53 (twelve years ago) link

"Drive By" was already doing tons to make me ever regret not declaring these dudes the worst band in the world but this "This Could Be My Year" horseshit merits death

God, Music and Romeo and Juliet (DJP), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 20:54 (twelve years ago) link

hahaha omg this song.

i feel sort of warmly toward this band now; i blame some dude.

"Life is good but love is better/Even Bieber ain't forever"

sung to the tune of "Sometimes a Fantasy"

Exile in lolville (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 21:16 (twelve years ago) link

Listening to the track - went to check if either the SR-71 guy or the Bowling For Soup guy had a hand in this. Looks like the blame can be shared by producer Butch Walker and a team known as S*A*M* and Sluggo who cut their team on the Gym Class Heroes and other Modern Rock radio faves like the All Time Low.

da croupier, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 23:03 (twelve years ago) link

I hate the chorus a LOT more than the verses

da croupier, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 23:04 (twelve years ago) link

i was just getting over the two-ply lyric in "drive by"

teledyldonix, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 23:05 (twelve years ago) link

i was thinking the chorus sounded like third wave emo

thank you for decoding that

Whiney vs. (BradNelson), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 23:09 (twelve years ago) link

"Drive-By" and most of the album is apparently courtesy of a Norwegian duo named "Espionage" who also hooked them up with "Hey Soul Sister"

wth i have been transported to the alternate universe where Train exists and is a thing

i haven't heard the Train song yet but i stan for Butch Walker so it's a shame he's involved in something that's apparently this bad. All Time Low have never really gotten any rock radio play, though, they're a haircut emo band (from the Baltimore suburb i lived in in college!) that would've been on TRL if TRL still existed by the time they got semi-big.

I can't wait to find out that the lead singer has knocked up Stevie Nicks and forced her to have an abortion.

Exile in lolville (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 11 April 2012 01:07 (twelve years ago) link

i like the part in the song where they leave san fran in a thousand dollar van. to go where? LA? seems kinda expensive, actually.

scott seward, Wednesday, 11 April 2012 01:08 (twelve years ago) link

they had their first radio hits and started touring nationally around that time

some dude, Wednesday, 11 April 2012 01:10 (twelve years ago) link

Come now, Rogermexico, he's an artist whose heart lies in Cafe du Nord, not the Shoreline. He has TEH PASSION.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 11 April 2012 01:10 (twelve years ago) link

i've managed to avoid this band pretty good i think.
