maybe it's the length of the mp3 crapping out either your media player or the scrobble plugin. i haven't noticed any problems but i wasn't really paying attention recently

tremendoid, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 23:27 (sixteen years ago) link

i think you're right that it has something to do with the length

jergïns, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 23:37 (sixteen years ago) link

Never had this message before
Importing Listening History… We're currently creating your charts and finding musical neighbours based on the music you've listened to on your computer. This may take a few hours, thanks for your patience!

Did everyone else get the same?
Maybe I'll finally get good new neighbours!

i don't get how the group stats work.

poortheatre, Thursday, 17 April 2008 14:23 (sixteen years ago) link

It's an aggregation of ILXOR group members tracks listened to, isn't it?

Neil S, Thursday, 17 April 2008 15:02 (sixteen years ago) link

Yeah, if you're in the ILXOR group, then the #1 song is just the song that the greatest number of ILXors have listened to that week. It usually takes at least 15, and sometimes as many as 30, different listeners to make #1.

jaymc, Thursday, 17 April 2008 15:12 (sixteen years ago) link

The open minded index thing is back up and running
http://omi.musickum.com/index.php5
Mine went up to 142

Herman G. Neuname, Thursday, 17 April 2008 18:13 (sixteen years ago) link

i gotcha, so even though i listened to 'wichita lineman' 20 something times this week, it won't break the charts :(

(165!)

poortheatre, Thursday, 17 April 2008 20:32 (sixteen years ago) link

one month passes...

Still 142.

Anyway , http://pict.fm/results/d7d599dc57.html you can put 7 slideshow pics of bands or album covers (if you choose the further options/show more pics/show album covers)
That's what I have on my page. 7 album covers (Looks better than band pics)

Herman G. Neuname, Thursday, 22 May 2008 00:05 (fifteen years ago) link

go to http://pict.fm
select the 7 bands then click on MORE OPTIONS FOR THE SELECTED ARTIST. Then click SHOW ALBUM COVERS. and select 1 album cover by each of the 7 bands.

Herman G. Neuname, Thursday, 22 May 2008 00:12 (fifteen years ago) link

Lets see if mine shows http://pict.fm/results/d7d599dc57.gif

Herman G. Neuname, Thursday, 22 May 2008 00:15 (fifteen years ago) link

Oh yeah, you can do as many as you like. Would be better if there was more than 7 allowed on each one though.

New look site can be viewed as a beta (subscribers only) at http://beta.last.fm/home

We've kept this to ourselves long enough. It's time for you to give us your feedback and constructive criticism. Help shape the next phase of development not only with your razor-sharp Last.fm savvy, but also as representatives for newcomers. Give your family and friends a peek too, and tell us what they think. There are a lot of changes here for everyone.

Important info & guidelines

1. Currently supported browsers: Firefox, Safari, Internet Explorer 7.

2. Please check the known issues thread before submitting any bugs or problems.

3. Use the yellow beta feedback toolbar (at the top of most pages) for bug reports and feedback on individual pages. It's easier for us to track and we'll be able to resolve issues more quickly.

4. Help us help you; when using this forum, post screenshots, urls and whatever else helps fully explain your thoughts so we can get to the bottom of your problem straight away.

Read on if you're interested in some of the thinking behind the changes, otherwise get started at: beta.last.fm

What's this all about?

Three main concepts driving the UI and feature development for this next-generation Last.fm are: play music, share music, and add music. We've focused on making these three things easier for everyone to enjoy, even your mum. You've probably noticed the robust new player at the top of every page—hopefully no more digging around for play buttons and radio stations, and music pages are re-positioned for sharing that music with a friend, or saving it to your library.

What's the library all about? It's a way for you to see all the music in your profile. Dig through every artist, album and track you've ever played, save things there to check out later and categorise your music with tags. It's pretty fun looking at your friends' music now too. I can now see what's in Felix's (not-scrobbling-yet) vinyl collection, or what music my kid sister likes—even though she doesn't have her own computer or iPod. Your library is the home for all your music, whether you scrobble it or add it manually. It's also the basis for all of your personalised recommendations on Last.fm.

There's some other fun bits, like real-time charts, activity feeds and podcasts, but mostly what we've been working on is a fresh start, a new foundation for a Last.fm that can hold all our ideas and yours. If things look a little bare or basic in places, that's why ;-) we need your feedback before we build up the rest of the site and put on finishing touches.

I don't like the way it looks but it's only a beta so hopefully it will improve.

Herman G. Neuname, Monday, 30 June 2008 17:07 (fifteen years ago) link

can't log in unless you do the $3.00 thing
anyway it has to be better than the current site, no?

tremendoid, Monday, 30 June 2008 20:14 (fifteen years ago) link

No, i prefer the current site. I'm hoping the beta will improve before it goes live.

Non-Subscribers can still read http://www.last.fm/group/Last.fm+Beta , see all the moans on the shoutboxes and the forum.

Herman G. Neuname, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 21:10 (fifteen years ago) link

Lots of complaints that it looks like Facebook (I don't have Facebook so I cannot compare)

Herman G. Neuname, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 21:13 (fifteen years ago) link

I really hope they bring back the weekly chart to last fm. I always looked forward to seeing my weekly update (sad though that is)

Herman G. Neuname, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 21:18 (fifteen years ago) link

I noticed one thing they were advertising for the new version was: continually-updated charts. Does that mean they've got rid of the weekly one?

Forest Pines Mk2, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 21:21 (fifteen years ago) link

Yep. You can change it to show some rolling last 7 days thing, but at the expense of your top artists.
I want both. The weekly publishing of the last weeks chart was the best thing about last fm!

Last fm now is less interested in the charts and more about social networking like myspace and facebook. Fuck that.

Herman G. Neuname, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 21:25 (fifteen years ago) link

I sent my feedback complaining that point :)

Herman G. Neuname, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 23:30 (fifteen years ago) link

It would be good to have both.

Also agree w/ facebook call, too neat-looking.

wilter, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 23:53 (fifteen years ago) link

It doesn't look like there is going to be both if the thread on the forum is anything to go by.

Is it really like Facebook? I had no idea Facebook would be so hideous!

Herman G. Neuname, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 23:55 (fifteen years ago) link

Mine (old format) is here.

Eazy, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 23:56 (fifteen years ago) link

Facebook has pretty great site design, comparatively speaking. The real disaster would be if it looked like Myspace...

stephen, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 00:48 (fifteen years ago) link

Weird, I just got this email...

The beta started a while back and now theyre inviting non-subscribers (possibly people who have subscribed in the past) as my alternative account i hardly use got an invite too.
So what do you think of it,Stephen?

Herman G. Neuname, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 01:22 (fifteen years ago) link

It won't let me through actually. Says I oughta subscribe. Bah.

stephen, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 01:34 (fifteen years ago) link

the shoutbox is at the bottom of the page and is much much bigger, shows a lot more messages.

does it show both sides of a conversation now? i hope not, it's a really stupid idea that i'm kinda glad they kept, i can't deal with straight up pms

tremendoid, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 05:37 (fifteen years ago) link

uh

tremendoid, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 05:38 (fifteen years ago) link

No. But there is an activity feed where you can see where you posted on other shoutboxes/posted on groups or forums/wrote a journal etc.

Herman G. Neuname, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 13:53 (fifteen years ago) link

no weekly chart? fuck that!

grimly fiendish, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 14:38 (fifteen years ago) link

I will miss the weekly charts, but I quite like the idea of adding non-scrobblable music to your collection (though I suppose there are other sites for that and I don't use those). But what can you do with this info once you've taken the time to add it?

Slighty tempted to stump up the subscriber fee to have a poke at this, but considering I haven't even bothered to check my weekly charts for ages (and it used to be a matter of considerable sad ego-stroking every Monday to look at them and congratulate myself or something) it's probably not worth it.

a passing spacecadet, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 14:44 (fifteen years ago) link

You can change your top artist chart to a rolling 7 day one but it's not the same. I like the charts the way they were. They can change the look but they need to keep the principle the same.

Herman G. Neuname, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 14:47 (fifteen years ago) link

I bet they've only done this to stop people moaning "my weekly charts haven't updated"

Herman G. Neuname, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 14:48 (fifteen years ago) link

Yeah, I too have become obsessed with my weekly chart.

Have also just discovered the delights of the ILXor group radio station- I was unaware that groups had stations:
