Rushed to hospital after suffering cardiac arrest, apparently. Does not look well in the recent photos.
Vamos, @LisaPresley !! 🙏❤️ pic.twitter.com/31OGj98BPF— Pablo RodrĂguez Lago (@fei_rock) January 12, 2023

I love Lisa Marie and wish her the best. I hope she pulls through. I had a heart attack recently, it is terrifying when the doctor tells you to start writing your will.

A friend on Facebook said that, while there are lots of famous people known only by their first name, she might have been the only child of a famous person who was known by her first name. Don't know if that's true, but Lisa-Marie only brings one person to mind for me.

She and her band did a solid, seemingly unbroken hour under the lights on Soundstage long ago, commanding my attention all the way through. Seems like all the studio tracks I've heard, prob including some feasted on by Old Ilx above, were pretty good too---

Letterman's YouTube channel uploaded her interview on his show. It's really striking how much of her father can be seen in her - not only the physical details in her face, but even in the mannerisms and the smile. She mentions needing to keep certain memories of her father to herself, and in light of her death, it brings to mind one of the most poignant aspects of Elaine May's Mikey and Nicky.

Can relate to the keeping some memories to/for yourself. Also always think about that one Emmylou Harris quote about Gram Parsons.

Yeah, absolutely. FWIW, when Loretta Lynn died recently, Jack White said something similar in his remembrance.

Bought Storm & Grace, her third and last album, at a garage sale yesterday for a dollar. I'd never heard her before--the copy was unopened, and I saw the T-Bone Burnett producer's credit, so why not. Not quite through the whole thing, but some of it is surprisingly good.

All of her tracks that I've heard seemed good---except maybe a very early guest duet w Malcolm McLaren, can't quite remember---and was very impressed by her and band on Chicago Public TV's Soundstage: 50-odd minutes of seemingly non-stop music, no show of effort or mastery, just doing it.
― dow, Monday, 16 June 2025 19:33 (eleven months ago)
I reviewed Storm & Grace favorably upon its release; it's her best album overall, though I did like a couple of her Hot AC singles well enough. There was an interesting duet with Pink on her second album that nodded toward her break from Scientology; their voices sounded fantastic together.
TBB has gotten increasingly boring over the years, but I did like his production on this, and it's a shame she never issued a proper follow-up. Her music was certainly better than she was credited for at the time.

Greil Marcus quotes from it in the latest edition of Mystery Train...Riley Keough writing something to the effect that if Elvis had never made it, "my mom would have been in jail for sure".
I've got an obscure grievance against LMP - she "stole" guitarist Michael Lockwood (and married him) from Aimee Mann's band while the latter was making a now-lost duo album with Scott Miller, causing the derailment of the recording process.
― Halfway there but for you, Tuesday, 9 June 2026 13:09 (five days ago)
Oh wow, sorry about that.
― River of No Reply (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 9 June 2026 13:11 (five days ago)
Some HS friend of mine was in a band with Scott Miller's wife iirc
Anyway came back to say that while listening to a playlist of some of her songs and generally enjoying them, one jumped out in particular and it turns out to be a collaboration with Richard Hawley!
― River of No Reply (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 9 June 2026 13:13 (five days ago)
Sometimes when I watch videos of Elvis performing, I think about the fact that if he hadn’t done exactly what he did in exactly that moment in time—if he hadn’t walked into the right building, recorded the right song, danced the way he did in front of the right person—there would be no Elvis Presley. We probably would have lived somewhere in Mississippi. I didn’t even finish high school in this version of my life, so I can’t imagine where I’d be in that one. My great-grandfather drove trucks, maybe we would have carried on that tradition. Maybe we would have made furniture in Tupelo. My mom would have ended up in jail for sure.

I feel like there was at least some part of her that was aware of whatever her strengths as a performer were and what material was good for her.

I imagine as a scholar of celebrity matrimony you know that she (his first wife) went on to marry, play in a band with and divorce Mitch Easter?
― Halfway there but for you, Wednesday, 10 June 2026 03:06 (four days ago)
Didn't know this is what kept the album from happening. I once asked Aimee about the record when I met her after a show in the early 00's (or thereabouts) and she was just like "yeah, that would have been great."
