And when daddy comes home, he can't get no rest...

Teenage scene: My dad entered my bedroom enraged to hear me playing the Who's "Squeezebox", which he claims is "one of the dirtiest songs ever recorded." Of course he wouldn't tell me how. I am pretty darned sure it's just about an accordian.

Has anyone ever been shocked by their interpretation of what you thought was an innoucuous tune?

the recent Ucunt article on the Who seemed to think the song was about breasts.

I think my dad thought it was about a vibrator.

Kind of related - When I was like 3-4 I was singing the Kibbles and Bits song and got seriously scolded by my father because due to growing up with my Tawianese mother I had this weird half accent so he thought I was saying "Kibbles and Bitch and bitch and bitch."

I'd like to point out that the Donner Party recorded "Squeeze Box"... with guitar instead of accordion.

We used to sing that Kibbles and Bits doggy song as "Nipples and Tits! Nipples and Tits!". When we were like, 23 or 24.

my mom wouldn't let me buy Tears For Fears' The Seeds Of Love because of song titles like "Woman In Chains" and others about knives. Didn't want her kid gettin' into none of that misogynist violence that...Tears For Fears...was known for.

I always thought it was about a tight, uh, coochie.

Maybe not quite on topic but one day in 1978 my mother suddenly went totally berserk about the Buzzcocks "Orgasm Addict" T-shirt which I'd been wearing for *MONTHS*.

I've often wondered whether she'd never actually bothered to read it before that day or she'd only just discovered what the word meant....

Somehow I've never seemed to find quite the right moment to bring the subject up in conversation and ask her.

That's funny, my folks were the opposite, they'd always pick a totally innocuous meaning for whatever "offensive" song they heard blaring out my room. According to them, "Night Prowler" was about someone stealing garden tools and "Let's Get it Up" was about an airplane

the original story about the Who song was featured in an episode of Freaks and Geeks
