Ya know'em, ya love'em, they're.....the `Glers!...and they rock. The brooding, the facial hair, that organ, the fisticuffs, the misogyny.....what's not to love?

Pretty good . . . but I would replace #2 and #4 with "Duchess" and "Nice and Sleazy" and call it a done deal.

Oooh..."Nice'n'Sleazy" almost made the cut, I admit it.

Never liked "Duchess," actually.....

FELICITY....howaya?

Very well, and you? Are you joining the rest of the April Fools at the Jersey City FAP?

"Golden Brown" must be the most gorgeous punk harpsichord song ever. I like almost all of "La Folie" in fact but it does not capture the Stranglers' quintessence.

My super powers diminish when I leave the island of Manhattan.

All of the songs above, plus. Someone just played me "who wants the world?". I had forgotten what a fine song that was. I wish it had been done by the Chocolate Watchband. Maybe we could send the song back in time to be done in some kind of retroactive cover version....

So are there any other songs that sound like "Golden Brown " ? This ethereal waltz pop gem is so good.

the Feline album it comes from has that feel. nothing exactly like 'ethereal waltz pop' but there's a late night sneaking around vibe to the whole thing.

I got "La Folie" and Golden Brown is on there, so it's on "Feline" too ?

oscar, Monday, 19 January 2009 22:11 (fifteen years ago) link

No love here for their Walk On By then?

The Orchid by Psychic TV goes really well with Golden Brown.

As far as the Stranglers, Let's Tango in Paris from the same record has some similar qualities.

If "Always The Sun" isn't in your top 5 I don't know what to say.

It's not classic era Stranglers I know but

It's aged very well but the rest of "Dreamtime" has not.

Finally bought Rattus on CD after years of relying on the cassettes I made in the 80s. The 2017 reissue which has the David Buckley essay on the UA/EMI years - an enjoyable read, especially on the Meninblack period.
