Newsonic is a pretty odd space. I think it's a Wesleyan thing. Don't know the people, but they used to have lots of art-music type events. But also heavy on the Shy Child/El Guapo axis. I remember low ceilings and carpeting and lots of Jews outside. Lots of Jews inside as well, but considerably less observant.

It's true, actually -- the record won't be released till the beginning of May, I think, but all the strings have been recorded. The record will be finished by the end of this weekend. I hope it works out, too. You guys are very nice.
I wish the EP was on vinyl, too -- but it was not in the plans for Ace Fu, the label that put it out. The Wedding will definitely be on (gatefold) vinyl.

well, to me, maybe.jane said they were sorta pissed about it, but the d00d who made said flick was really cool fella, so they just chalked it up to 'Oneida luck' and to the shelf to went. to await usage at some later date. i think on the site they make mention of using it for some zombie flick they may or may not do...take it with a grain, i s'pose.

CD80X2: a specialized introduction to rock (1 matching message)
so my friend peter (wow, same name, blah blah) works with me at a record store. he loves the velvet underground, crass, dub reggae, and 20th century composition. last week, after i offhandedly suggested an album (nico's the end) to him, he told me i needed to "school him in rock". so, considering his musical tastes, and my own favorites, i made him a 2-CD80 mix, with the first disc being shorter, poppier songs, and the second disc being longer, more experimental rock. how did i do?CD-11. prince - let's go crazy2. fleetwood mac - the ledge3. the homosexuals - vociferous slam4. the fall - how i wrote "elastic man"5. sly & the family stone - family affair6. pavement - elevate me later7. the sonics - the witch8. guided by voices - watch me jumpstart9. neutral milk hotel - in the aeroplane over the sea10. the raincoats - fairytale in the supermarket11. the rolling stones - ventilator blues12. blue cheer - summertime blues13. os mutantes - ave lucifer14. fairport convention - reynardine15. bob dylan - as i went out one morning16. the kinks - the village green preservation society17. t. rex - metal guru18. brian eno - needles in the camel's eye19. unrest - make out club20. the new pornographers - letter from an occupant21. the strokes - you talk way too much 22. the stooges - down on the street23. thin lizzy - the boys are back in town 24. the slits - shoplifting25. wire - pink flag
CD-21. scott walker - farmer in the city2. mars - helen for(d)sdale3. can - oh yeah4. boredoms - vision creation newsun track 1 (circle)5. black dice - the dream is going down6. oneida - sheets of easter7. nico - it has not taken long8. joni mitchell - the jungle line9. captain beefheart - hot head10. public image ltd. - theme11. perrey/kingsley - the little man from mars
so, maybe im a little rockist...

Previously, Oneida pushed further into abstract sounds, recording compositions that couldn’t have been more different than the hammering anthems of their past. They return with 'Success', their most guitar-centric, rock album in decades.https://oneida.bandcamp.com/album/success

Guessing there must be some long jams yet to be unleashed on the new one, 3 of the 7 songs have been released and they only total about 12 minutes.

Sane for me. I am always glad they are doing stuff, and find things to enjoy alright about the more recent albums, but they don't work for me like the first run of albums with the original lineup (and the albums post-Papa C that were trio records).

Still loving the new one, it's so great.
Mildly annoyed by Secretly Canadian with their distribution, ordered the Steel Rod EP and Happy New Year from them back in August, the two main holes in my Oneida collection and hadn't had any luck stumbling across copies in the wild. Every time I check back in I get a response about the items being "delayed coming from the warehouse", which fine, but creeping up on three months for older catalog titles they insist they have in stock seems like a long time. Mostly just annoyed that since I placed the order I've, naturally, came across a copy of each that I didn't buy because they were supposedly on the way.
Anyway, venting over, back to Success!
