Two album tracks that cannot be separated

I love it when this happens. With vinyl you had to accept each song as it came, more or less. With CDs the temptation to skip is sometimes too much.

Sometimes though, two songs sit right next to each other on an album that are the perfect complement to each other and they can't be separated.

Here's a few of mine:

Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band/With a Little Help from My Friends - The Beatles

A Song for Jack/His Majesty King Raam - Lemonjelly.

Yellow/Trouble – Coldplay

Sylvan Song/Dream of the Archer - Heart

We Have Heaven/South Side of the Sky - Yes

The Hellion/Electric Eye - Judas Priest

Lightning Strikes/Bitches Brew - Aerosmith

Have you got any favourites ?

C J (C J), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 18:35 (twenty-one years ago) link

Beck's "High Five" into "Ramshackle".

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 18:37 (twenty-one years ago) link

And on that Lemon Jelly, for me it's "Ode to Patagonia" into whatever the song is about nothingness. Those songs KILL me.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 18:38 (twenty-one years ago) link

"Sometimes"/"Blown a Wish" -- MBV

"Home is Where the Heart Is"/"PS Goodbye" -- the Chameleons

"I Want You Now"/"To Have and to Hold" -- Depeche Mode

"The End of the World"/"Jealousy" -- Pet Shop Boys

Pretty much any two tracks on 3 Feet High and Rising, skits or no skits.

"Disposition"/"Reflection" -- Tool

Etc. etc, this list could yet run on...

oops (Oops), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 19:07 (twenty-one years ago) link

I'm not even a Queen fan but even I know that you can't separate "We Will Rock You" and "We Are the Champions"

For me, they go together.

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 19:20 (twenty-one years ago) link

Orbital has a bunch (all the two-parters!), but there's a couple non-labelled ones: Impact/Remind, Way Out/Spare Parts Express.

"The Wheel"/"Istanbul"/"Cacophony", G Moroder 'Midnight Express' OST

dave q, Tuesday, 4 March 2003 20:54 (twenty-one years ago) link

It is categorically impossible to start playing _Disintegration_ at "Prayers For Rain" and not listen to the entire rest of the album.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 20:54 (twenty-one years ago) link

"Banstyle/Sappy's Curry" -- well, actually it is one song, in the same way "Juanita:Kiteless:To Dream of Love" isn't three.

"Side One" of Discovery.

Eric H. (Eric H.), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 20:55 (twenty-one years ago) link

"Gut Feeling"/"Slap Your Mammy", Devo

"Hot Stuff"/"Bad Girls", Donna Summer

"Foreplay/Long Time" - Boston

Mark (MarkR), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 20:57 (twenty-one years ago) link

"In the Beginning"/"Shout at the Devil", David Bowie

"Future Legend"/"Diamond Dogs", Motley Crue

dave q, Tuesday, 4 March 2003 20:59 (twenty-one years ago) link

Haha dave q is totally OTM w/ Journey and the Cars, but I like these choices better:

"Feeling That Away" / "Anytime" - Journey
"Bye Bye Love" / "Moving in Stereo" - The Cars

And of course, that radio staple:

"Heartbreaker" / "Living Lovin' Maid (She's Just A Woman)" - Led Zeppelin

Might as well throw in "Friends" / "Celebration Day" by Zep too.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 21:22 (twenty-one years ago) link

"I Hate Hate" -> "Brazil" by Cornelius

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 21:25 (twenty-one years ago) link

Oh Christ how could I forget-

"Waiting for the Bus" / "Jesus Just Left Chicago" - ZZ Top

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 21:25 (twenty-one years ago) link

Interesting that most of these selection are classic rock...this practice is dead w/ modern rock radio, it looks like. Back in the '70s the stations let the jocks step out for a doobie & play two cuts back-to-back.

Mark (MarkR), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 21:46 (twenty-one years ago) link

Talking Heads:
'The Girls Want To Be With The Girls' -->(2-3-4)--> 'Found A Job'

('DAMN-THAT-TELE-VISION!')

On the vinyl the inter-track gap is just perfect

Famous Athlete, Wednesday, 5 March 2003 00:39 (twenty-one years ago) link

Wings: Venus And Mars/Rock Show
Madonna: Dear Jessie/Oh Father

(The latter two were separated for single release as a-side one on each side of the Atlantic, but they work better together)

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 20:42 (twenty-one years ago) link

For some stange reason the songs on Spiritualized's first ablum really do this. I just must listen to them in groups or not listen to them at all.

A Nairn (moretap), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 21:08 (twenty-one years ago) link

Ween's "Pumpin' For the Man" -> "Sarah" epitomizes this phenom.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 21:19 (twenty-one years ago) link

Rocket from the Crypt: "Nail Biter"/"Battery Licker". Actually, I guess all their early stuff is like that.

Also, "Chain Reaction" and "Quantum Physics" by the Can.

die9o (dhadis), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 21:21 (twenty-one years ago) link

Another Rheostatics twofer: "Self-Serve Gas Station" and "California Dreamline" fit together so well that for the first few months, I thought they were the same song.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 21:22 (twenty-one years ago) link

Actually, I guess all their early stuff is like that.

Rather. Hell, the whole Circa: Now! album is like that!

better answer: tracks 2 & 3 on Michael Mayer's Immer

Keith McD (Keith McD), Thursday, 6 March 2003 04:24 (twenty-one years ago) link

Polythene Pam into She Came in Through the Bathroom Window- The Beatles

I would say most of side 2 on that album cannot be separated.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Thursday, 6 March 2003 11:52 (twenty-one years ago) link

ned you probably already know this fact, but psb only added
'the end of the world' at the 11th hour. originally
'miserablism' was there instead, but literally just as it was about
to be pressed they changed their minds about having such a
spiky weird thing on there at all, and hastily replaced it with TEOTW
which was slated for a b.side.

way trivial psb facts, i gots em.
