I passed up the opportunity to get a Super Lovers YMO t-shirt once:(

Joy joy joy! (Stereotype dept. - anyone know where to get ahold of 'Speed, Glue & Shinki'?)

I just got the double live album from '83 called 'After Service' and love it. What other albums of theirs would you recommend? I'm thinking 'Solid State Survivor' and 'Technodelic'.

Patrick South (Patrick South), Sunday, 20 July 2003 16:32 (twenty years ago) link

'Solid State Survivor' is my favorite out of all of them. I also enjoy bits of the original japanese version of 'xoo multiples'. the skits are something I really had to work to come to terms with, all those years ago.

Nothing touches Sakamoto's 'B-2 Unit' and 'Esperanto'.

You are kidding me.

*clicks on linkage*

OMGOMGOMG. I am verklempt in the ganectagazoid over reading this. YMO reissues!!!! MY musical prayers have been answered, too!!!! OMG, you know how hard it has been for me in the past to just get the two CDs I've gotten thus far? OMG, now I can even get the U.S. release of their self-titled debut! (I have the Japanese CD, and seeing as though I don't know how to read kanji [that the right word?] script, I am totally lost as to what the sleeve says.)

Are there any here on this board who don't yet have BGM? If so, PLEASE DO GET IT. It is my favorite YMO album, with one of my favorite songs of all time, "Ballet". It was a miracle I could get the CD, and even more so that I acquired the vinyl.

This is just too cool for words. Millar, thanks for posting this awhile back, and Patrick South, thanks for pushing this thread upward so I could see it. You have made a very blue person feel not so blue.

The store I went to didn't have 'BGM', but that looks like a good one too. They had most of the rest though. Just so you know, the reissues have that nice "vinyl" packaging, which makes them feel like collectors items. I'm glad I was able to excite you about the reissues.

X00 Multiplies is easily my favorite, followed by Solid State Survivor and then Technodelic.

"my company is very FAMOUS!! ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha."

Lyrically, "Key" is my favorite track. It's just so cute!

I've learned to control myself when people initiated Firesign skits but here I'm still helpless

Best comedy of the twentieth century, perhaps. Excepting Raymond and Peter.

"DO YOU UNDERSTAND?"

(Not at all prompted by me listening to a greatest hits disc or anything, of course. The Senor Coconut tribute album is good fun too.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 22 June 2006 03:38 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh and "Rydeen" is one of the greatest songs ever thank you drive through.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 22 June 2006 03:46 (seventeen years ago) link

Funny thing, I've been listening to lots of YMO last week (and this week) too. "La Femme Chinoise" has been owning my disco-loving soul.

FOR SUZY WONG AND SHANGHAI DOLLS!!!

So did these reissues disappear as suddenly as they appeared? All I ever found were expensive Japanese imports.

Well, it is six years later, Fnb...

Time flies eh. I recall looking hard for them around 2004 with no luck.

"feel like i've been through a washing machine" is one of my favorite opening lines

here's a great video, featuring Bill Nelson, David Palmer, Keiichi Suzuki, and ex-Plastic Hajime Tachibana. Takahashi nearly cracks up multiple times

re: BGM

WTF, "Happy End" sounds like a freaking Asmus Tietchens song, all cold and generative
