haha that sounds pretty fuckin' dire but i would still rather go to lollapalooza than atp!!

geeta (geeta), Thursday, 6 February 2003 06:12 (twenty-one years ago) link

Lollapalooza 2 was the first concert I ever went to. Considering how the crowd treated the Jesus and Mary Chain that time, I feel kinda sorry for Interpol. They don't really seem like a big summer festival kind of act.

Kris (aqueduct), Thursday, 6 February 2003 06:21 (twenty-one years ago) link

what about Coachella?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 6 February 2003 06:22 (twenty-one years ago) link

god, i was at lollapalooza 2 (i also saw the one with the boredoms on it, whichever that was), and it was just dire, even at the time when i should have been infatuated with such things.

From what I saw, Interpol is not all that fuckin' fantastic live. They just play their songs. Nothing I couldn't get out of a bong hit and a hard headphones listen to the record.

But I wouldn't mind seeing QOTSA live. I imagine that's much better than the record.

Saw the first four Lollapaloozas. Ah, remember when. Jim Reid shouting at all the 'fookin cocksoockers' in the crowd...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 6 February 2003 06:31 (twenty-one years ago) link

There was something very wrong with JMAC playing in the middle of the afternoon. It looked like the Reid brothers were about to burst into flames.

boredoms was lollapalooza 94. i have fond memories of lollapalooza 95!! but as for cypress hill, they just played their songs. nothing i couldn't get out of a bong hit and a hard headphones listen to the record.

geeta (geeta), Thursday, 6 February 2003 06:39 (twenty-one years ago) link

"Billy Corgan, Smashing Pumpkins."
"Homer Simpson, smiling politely."

saw '93 (not great) and '94 (much better). decent memories--'93 is where I met my first girlfriend (I was 18 so it was about fucking time)--but that lineup...I dunno. Jane's Addiction yawn, Incubus ditto, Audioslave yeesh, Queens of the Stone Age hell yeah, Interpol uh uh, and Jurassic 5 are OK live but not much cop beyond that. all it really means is that they found the '02 equivalent(s) of what the first few years' worth of shows were.

M Matos (M Matos), Thursday, 6 February 2003 07:18 (twenty-one years ago) link

um, where the fuck is a the band? don't Perry know rock is back?

almost saw the first one, then thought 'gee, would I pay half this much to see any of these bands individually? I mean, Siouxsie probably don't look so hot closeup right?'; always wished I'd gotten a chance to see the 95 one.

James Blount (James Blount), Thursday, 6 February 2003 07:31 (twenty-one years ago) link

oh no does this mean that Moby won't have to do an "Area 3" tour now? *sniff*

Vic (Vic), Thursday, 6 February 2003 07:58 (twenty-one years ago) link

Perry needs to let it die.

Hayden (Hayden), Thursday, 6 February 2003 08:22 (twenty-one years ago) link

I liked the one, uh, I think it was the '93 Lolla with Primus, Fishbone, Arrested Development, Rage, Tool...geez that was a good show!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 6 February 2003 13:51 (twenty-one years ago) link

I was 18 so it was about fucking time

Making all of us who didn't have a first girlfriend until later feel *very* down. Perhaps. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 6 February 2003 14:14 (twenty-one years ago) link

Went to the first 3. The first two at Mansfield MA were punctuated by riots - the local national guard post showed up in riot gear as we burned the entire fence for bonfires during "Supernaut". It was Dionysian. During #1, the lawn section threw the entire, freshly-laid ocean of sod at Living Color (the only black artists on the bill, yes, but also the fucking worst band on the bill). They had to have umm...I forget who, it might have been Perry. Someone came out and threatened to stop the show. I was totally fucked on Percocet for the whole thing, but I remember Trent Reznor squealing "You fuckin' pussies probably know this one!!" before playing "Down In It". I pretty much lost all respect for him right then.
