Times you were into a band then one day forgot they existed

So I recently got excited about an Internal Bleeding tour before realizing it was Internal Suffering, and loudly bitching that they were some stupid band I've never heard of.

Then check my Bandcamp and realize I own several albums by this band I supposedly never heard of. And apparently spun them a lot.

Then I see a piece of album artwork that gets me more curious...

And I find out that I actually have a physical copy of one of their albums. That I accidentally rebought digitally a few years ago because I forgot I owned it.

So this I was very into this band for a short period of time, then forgot they existed. Got into them a second time years later. Forgot they existed a second time. All in the span of a decade.

Does this ever happen to you all? Is it a byproduct of consuming so much music that eventually shit leaves our brains?

Because I've done this with multiple bands/artists/rappers and it seems weird to react so positively to something for a period of time, then not merely lose track of them but upon hearing their name again, have no memory of them.

Have any of you rebought albums multiple times due to this?

i have a whole shelf of charity shop cds that i have bought previously but had forgotten about so bought again.

Sometimes a friend will tell me about an artist and describe them in a way that makes me want to check them out, or I read a review of an artist that sounds awesome, and I go look them up on Discogs and discover that I have at least one of their albums in my Collection (and sometimes more than one). Maybe that counts?

Back in the day, if I heard a single song I liked I went out and bought multiple albums because that's how you heard stuff. Especially imports, you never knew if you'd see it again so if I saw something I was remotely interested in, I picked it up. Many, many of those albums wound up getting sold with my annual purge.

But to be specific, I was recently looking through old email in which I mentioned I had just see American Music Club. I have no memory of this gig and have long since sold all those AMC albums, and I had all of them pre-reformation.

I haven't bought stuff repeatedly out of forgetfulness, but there are definitely bands (especially brutal death metal bands) that I've responded really positively to for a short while then forgotten all about. And if I try to go through my Bandcamp collection to rediscover them, I can't, because there have been times when certain labels have offered a substantial discount on their entire catalog and I've bought it all, so now I'm awash in things I've never even listened to and can't even remember which ones I heard and liked.

It's definitely more of a problem in the era of digital music, when I have thousands of albums in alphabetical folders on a Lacie hard drive. I have a much better idea of what's on the CD shelves in the living room. There are things there that I'll go years without listening to, but at least I can look at them and go, Oh hey - I should put that on!
