I'm not sure yet whether I'm into their music but the new album has some interesting layers, which makes me think they deserve more of my attention.
Any thoughts on this band?

They're from Bristol! I still haven't seen them live, and like you I'm not sure if I like or love their work yet. It's definitely interesting though. Will check out the new one

I really like them, although I preferred the previous album to the current album. I saw them live last year and it was very good and I'm looking forward to seeing them again in autumn.

haven't heard the new album but i loved the singles (esp. "somewhere good") and loved their 2023 ep on the turning ground

They were great at Open Melody in LA the other month!

stumbled into their set at Big Ears w/o knowing anything about them and loved it — new one sounds kinda like a dubby Broadcast.

Much more hifi and song-forward than their previous stuff, but I love how spacious and stripped back it feels, and there's still some weirdness around the edges. It's really nice and I hope it catches on. There was this Guardian article recently where they where speaking candidly about their financial realities and everything, but I kept thinking that it would be even worse in the U.S. if they needed to cover health insurance (or keep a full-time day job that provides insurance, instead of part time).
Tbh I first heard of them when a Boomkat review of my record mentioned them as a point of comparison, and they actually played a track from it on their NTS show too, so I've been checking for them since even though there's no real connection.

a dubby Broadcast
interest piqued

loved their first EP and their gig earlier this year (i think) in montreal was glittering and diffuse in a really magical, mind-expanding way. that said, i find the new album a little bit bloodless and not quite weird enough to have caught my ear on the first couple listens. wore me out a bit with its gauziness.

saw them a few months ago knowing very little about them and found a few of the songs impenetrable at times but I was never bored and enjoyed most of their set.

love this record, particularly 'silently'

Anyone else reminded of Saint Etienne, when they're doing hazy/woozy as opposed to dancepop?
I agree about Marble Walls upthread.
I really like the dub-out on Movin On, something I'd have liked more of on this new album. It's got the right dosage of blissed out and interesting.
