inspired by listening to bows + arrows yesterday. seems like these guys are thought of as secondary players in that whole strokes/YYYs etc scene, but I've found myself going back to their stuff more than any of the others as time goes on.

good poll. they are all good imo.

you & me and lisbon are the ones that have stuck with me the most

“you & me” has been my pick for years now, but having just listened to bows + arrows yesterday for the first time in a while, waiting for what I was sure I remembered as one or two skips — no it’s actually all killer

k3vin k., Tuesday, 26 May 2026 17:24 (two months ago)

i feel like hamilton became a better singer in later albums, and the band better at cultivating an invitingly sparse atmosphere, but then again i haven't listened to bows + arrows in a while

the manda-whore-ian and hoe-gu (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 26 May 2026 17:32 (two months ago)

For sheer number of bangers the first two remain all-timers for me. A while back I realized I rally hadn’t paid any attention to them since A Hundred Miles Off and did a Spotify deep dive. I was kind of shocked at how strong Lisbon and Heaven are. You & Me def has some good stuff too. I still think Hundred Miles is their weakest (not really factoring Pussycats here).

OG Bobby Sacamano (will), Tuesday, 26 May 2026 17:49 (two months ago)

the first one hands down

brimstead, Tuesday, 26 May 2026 17:59 (two months ago)

best rock album of the 00s

brimstead, Tuesday, 26 May 2026 18:00 (two months ago)

I should listen to the last four albums! Sooner or later…

Anyway, my vote is for the first one, which I still bust out once or twice a year. Fantastic album

A Hundred Miles Off is the first one of theirs that I fully fell for, so I've gotta go with that one.

I prefer "bows + arrows" to "everyone". think there are much better hooks on the former and as voodoo alludes to, better vocals

k3vin k., Tuesday, 26 May 2026 22:04 (two months ago)

the first one is so impressionistic and otherworldly and.. out there..

brimstead, Tuesday, 26 May 2026 23:45 (two months ago)

how can one little man make such a big drum sound

brimstead, Tuesday, 26 May 2026 23:50 (two months ago)

let’s use this energy to argue that they were the best band of this scene/era

k3vin k., Tuesday, 26 May 2026 23:51 (two months ago)

compelled to vote for B+A. big hits no filler. had to listen back through them to be sure. Y&E def as good as the to that followed. Hundred Miles still prob my least preferred but even it has Another One Goes By & Louisiana which are top tier WM songs imo

xxp need a Spoon vs Walkmen poll maybe

disco stabbing horror (lukas), Wednesday, 27 May 2026 19:49 (two months ago)

The debut by quite a long way. I do like You & Me and Lisbon a decent amount too, but that debut still sounds so fresh and is always the one I go for.

It's always a toss up between Bows+Arrows and You and Me (The former currently has the advantage). Love them... And they were always a blast live!

would be an overwhelming blowout on this board, i'm afraid

going through the discography this week. still need to give close listens to hundred miles off and heaven, but I think bows + arrows is going to be the pick

k3vin k., Saturday, 30 May 2026 01:05 (one month ago)

I should give the debut yet another listen though considering its apparent popularity here. just don’t really hear the tunes

k3vin k., Saturday, 30 May 2026 01:05 (one month ago)

i've heard it all before, i've had it up to here

brimstead, Saturday, 30 May 2026 01:08 (one month ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

B&A even though I liked their later albums too

Bee OK, Thursday, 11 June 2026 01:06 (one month ago)

k3vin k., Thursday, 11 June 2026 01:55 (one month ago)

okay guess I need to listen to You and Me again. The increasingly sparse atmosphere that voodoo chilli mentions is kind of why I haven’t been able to attach myself to the latest works. The earlier stuff is so rough and overdriven and slightly otherworldly

brimstead, Friday, 12 June 2026 00:14 (one month ago)

I personally like Lisbon only slightly less than You and Me--was the lone A Hundred Miles Off voter, but kinda think Lisbon was given relatively short shrift if so many other ILXors love Y&M so much...

U look M-A-B-U-L-U-S (extended dub version) (Craig D.), Friday, 12 June 2026 00:46 (one month ago)

what I absolutely love more than any latter day walkmen song I half listened to: “I had a dream that you were mine” by ham and rostam from vampire weeeknd
